Anka opening is grand for Arts Center

By all accounts, the Arcadia Unified School District’s “An Evening With Anka” on Oct. 27 was enjoyed immensely by the sell-out crowd of nearly 1,200 local dignitaries, supporters of the new $20 million Performing Arts Center, and fans of the legendary Paul Anka.

Anka had the crowd singing along with his greatest hits, including Diana, You Are My Destiny, Tonight My Love Tonight, Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Puppy Love, Lonely Boy, My Hometown, Eso Beso, My Way and more. The audience also laughed along with him and some even got goose bumps during his tribute to Michael Jackson and his virtual sing-along with Sammy Davis, Jr. The opening night fundraiser/concert was presented by the school district and the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, established to support the Performing Arts Center. Monies generated from ticket sales to the event go to the Foundation to benefit the new center, art education and art programming for the community.
