Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report July 6 to July 12

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 908 / 141 Total Year to Date for 2014 28,173 / 3,505

For the period of Sunday, July 6th, through Saturday, July 12th, the Police Department responded to 908 calls for service of which 141 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, July 6:

1. Around 3:43 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Walgreens, 140 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a theft investigation. The store manager confronted a suspect that concealed a wireless alarm clock inside his backpack. The suspect attempted to punch the manager, but he missed and fled the location. A review of video surveillance revealed the suspect’s identity. Assisting officers responded to his residence in the 2000 block of Foss Avenue where he was arrested for Robbery. The 24-year-old male was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

2. Just after 11:50 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Live Oak Avenue and El Monte Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person. An investigation revealed the 44-year-old male was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, July 7:

3. At about 12:58 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding an identity theft report. The victim explained that he attempted to renew his California Driver’s License at the West Sacramento DMV Office where he resides, but discovered it was suspended for failing to appear on a traffic citation issued by Arcadia Police. The victim explained an unknown suspect must have used his personal information because he was never issued a citation by Arcadia Police. The victim believed the suspect may be his cousin who is similar in age and appearance. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

4. At approximately 5:09 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. The victim explained she found a Pasadena house for rent on Zillow.com and made contact with the owner through email who advised she needed to make a $1,000 security deposit. When the victim asked to see the apartment, the owner stated it was still occupied, but would be ready within a couple of weeks. After the victim completed the deposit, she went to the property to make contact with the tenant. To her surprise, the tenant explained it was not for rent as she purchased the house back in April.

Tuesday, July 8:

5. Just after 8:38 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Huntington Drive, east of Santa Anita Avenue, for several traffic violations. The officer discovered the driver, a 25-year-old male, had a suspended license and was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. During the booking process, additional methamphetamine was located inside the suspect’s wallet. As a result, he was also charged with bringing drugs into a jail facility.

6. Around 11:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of South Eighth Avenue regarding a disturbance on the horse trail. A female subject stabbed her boyfriend in the arm with a pocket knife because she was upset that he was dressing in women’s clothing. The 45-year-old female was arrested for Assault With A Deadly Weapon and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, July 9:

7. At about 9:19 a.m., an officer responded to Auto Clinic Inc., 412 North First Avenue, regarding a theft investigation. The shop received a stop payment on a credit card transaction that was processed in May. At the time, a female subject brought her 2008 Mercedes Benz C300 to the shop to get three tires replaced for approximately $720. The subject had her “husband” pay for the services over the telephone using a credit card; however, the shop did not know the card was stolen. The suspect is described as Hispanic, in her late thirties, 5’4”-5’6” tall, 140 lbs., with long brown hair, brown eyes, and dark skin. She can be identified if seen again.

8. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Sixth Avenue and Verner Circle regarding a stalled truck blocking the roadway. An investigation revealed the passenger, a 52-year-old male, was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, July 10:

9. At approximately 9:46 a.m., an officer made contact with a vehicle parked in front of Extended Stay Hotel, 500 East Santa Clara Street, after noticing it had an expired registration tab. The officer discovered the driver was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition. The 33-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

10. Around 2:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Pavilions, 745 West Naomi Avenue, in reference to a theft investigation. Video surveillance revealed two juveniles concealed liquor bottles and other merchandise inside their backpacks. The suspects exited the store without making payment and fled the location on their bicycles. The suspects appeared to be between 15 to 17-years-old.

Friday, July 11:

11. At about 12:29 p.m., an officer responded to Natural Selection restaurant, 305 North Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a fraud report. An employee received an unsolicited telephone call from a subject claiming to be a Southern California Edison representative. The subject told the employee that the restaurant’s account was delinquent and directed her to make a payment of $998.23 in order to avoid disconnection of the restaurant’s electricity. The employee made the payment at a local Rite Aid using Green Dot Money Pak prepaid cash cards as she was directed, and later realized it was a scam.

12. Shortly after 7:20 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Macy’s at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. A 35-year-old female selected a dress from a clothing rack and returned the item at a register for credit on a gift card. Afterwards, she concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and manipulated the price tags of a few clothing items, which she then purchased using the fraudulent gift card. She was arrested for Commercial Burglary and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, July 12:

13. Around 11:26 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Peck Road and Live Oak Avenue for no front license plate. The officer discovered the 23-year-old male driver had a suspended license; however, he did not know it was suspended. He was cited and released in the field without incident. His vehicle was driven home by another licensed driver.

14. At about 10:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) smashed the window of a 2005 Nissan Altima that was parked at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. The suspect(s) fled undetected with the victim’s purse. No evidence or witnesses were located.
