Woman’s Club wine taste benefit

Dozens turned out for the Woman’s Club elegant “Make a Difference” wine-tasting Saturday to benefit the Good Shepherd Shelter for Battered Women with Children.

Among the luminaries were Congresswoman Judy Chu and Assembly Member Ed Chau, who each made presentations to Woman’s Club President Cheryl Alberg and committee chair Francine Chiu, as well as Kathleen Buczko from the shelter.

Chu spoke passionately about the importance of the shelter, which provides a safe and nurturing environment in which mothers and their children can heal, reawaken their dignity and self-confidence, and learn the skills that will help them stop the cycle of domestic violence.

Two tables were filled with dozens of varied red and white wines, and several others with food donated by Claro’s, Embassy Suites, Matt Denny’s Ale House Restaurant, Spring Bamboo Seafood Restaurant, Sushi in the Box, Togo’s, and Vista Cove, as well as the Woman’s Club.

And dozens of great items filled the silent auction table.

Former Mayors Bob Harbicht and Peter Amundson (both expected to run for office again in a couple months) were also there, along with another former Mayor and longtime champion of the Woman’s Club, Floretta Lauber.
