Woman hits 2 women in crosswalk

Earlier this evening a 54 year-old Arcadia woman — Rebeca Gonzalez — struck a 56 year-old woman and her 17 year-old niece with her car in the mid-block crosswalk on Huntington Drive between Santa Anita Avenue and First Avenue earlier this Saturday evening, April 23. Gonzalez drove away without stopping but a witness followed her and contacted police who arrested Gonzalez. The two pedestrians suffered moderate injuries.
Police issued the following media release…
Shortly after 6 pm on Saturday April 23, 2016, Arcadia Police Officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run traffic collision in the 100 block of Westbound Huntington Drive. A vehicle traveling in the number one lane of Westbound Huntington Drive struck two pedestrians in the mid-block crosswalk. Both the 56-year-old woman and her 17 year-old niece suffered moderate injuries as a result of the collision. Both persons were transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The driver of the passenger vehicle made no effort to stop and render aid, so a witness followed the suspect a short distance until officers were able to contact her. The suspect was identified as Rebeca Gonzalez, who was a 54-year-old resident of Arcadia. Gonzalez was charged with a violation of CVC 20001(a) – duty to stop at the scene of an accident. Gonzalez will be booked and housed at the Arcadia Police Department. Gonzalez’ bail will be $50,000. This incident is being investigated by Arcadia Police Department Detectives.
