Valet theft: $9,900 jewelry

The Arcadia Police Department responded to 804 calls for service from Sunday, Dec. 19 through Saturday, Dec. 25 of which 115 required formal investigations. Here is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the officers of the Arcadia Police Department during this period. (Listed in crime categories created by Arcadia’s Best).

ARCADIA POLICE DEPARTMENT Calls for Criminal Activity Totals Year-to-Date (thru 12/25) Calls for Service: 47,603 (2009 total: 50,371; 2008 Total: 49,699) Formal Investigations: 6,773 (2009 total: 7,092; 2008 total: 6,705 .

Road rage Units responded to Peck and Clark around 8:11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, regarding an apparent road rage incident. A male Caucasian suspect, driving a red Mustang, brandished a handgun in threatening manner at another driver.

Residential burglaries/theft *A residential burglary occurred between noon and 1:40 p.m. Monday, Ddec. 20, in the 100 block of Las Tunas. Unknown suspect(s) pried open a rear sliding door to gain entry into the house. Once inside, the suspect(s) ransacked rooms and stole jewelry and cash. * A residential burglary occurred in the 1700 block of El Vista between 5:35 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Wednesday, Dec. 22. Unknown suspect(s) gained entry in the home by prying open the rear deadbolt and door knob lock. The suspect(s) stole designer handbags, watches, and jewelry.

Business theft/grand theft * Units responded to CVS Pharmacy, 1401 South Baldwin, around 1:41 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, in reference to a theft that just occurred. A 26-year-old female Hispanic was arrested for trying to steal bottles of alcohol. * Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, officers were dispatched to the security office at Westfield Santa Anita regarding a theft that occurred on Dec. 20 between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The victim used the parking valet service at the mall, and she left a $7,500 diamond bracelet and a $2,400 designer purse under a pile of clothing items in her car. Several hours after returning home, she discovered that her property had been stolen. * Three male Hispanic juveniles were detained for theft around 7:36 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, by an employee from the Pac Sun store located at Westfield Santa Anita. The suspects, ages 12, 14, and 15, stole merchandise from Pac Sun and Zumiez. Private persons’ arrests were made, and the juveniles were taken into custody for commercial burglary. They were later cited and released to their parents. * Loss prevention personnel from JC Penney detained two female juveniles for theft around 11:11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23. They hid merchandise in a purse and a shopping bag and then left the store without paying for the items. Additional stolen property from Hot Topic was also recovered. Private persons’ arrests were made, and the girls, ages 15 and 17, were taken into custody for commercial burglary.

Auto burglary/Stolen car * Between 7:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, an auto burglary occurred at Westfield Santa Anita. Unknown suspect(s) tampered with a door lock and stole a GPS unit, snowboard, and snowboarding equipment for a total loss of about $1630. * Between midnight and 2:24 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, an auto burglary occurred in the 1500 block of Clark. Unknown suspects attempted to steal the vehicle, but when the suspects were unsuccessful, they took an in-dash radio, laptop computer, iPod, and cell phones.

Alcohol/drugs * Around 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, a female driver drove over the center median at Huntington and Santa Clara, knocked down a tree, and collided with a Mercedes parked on the Rusnak dealership lot. A field sobriety test was conducted, and a 22-year-old Hispanic was taken into custody for DUI. * Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, a 23-year-old male Hispanic was arrested for DUI at Huntington and Morlan after he was seen weaving between lanes. * Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, a traffic stop was initiated at Foothill and Violet when the driver was observed driving over the solid double lines. Officers detected the odor of alcohol from the driver’s breath and a field sobriety test was conducted. It was determined that the 43-year-old male African-American driver was operating the vehicle while intoxicated and was arrested at the scene. * Officers conducted a traffic stop at Stanford and Baldwin around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, as the vehicle had a $35,000 warrant attached to it. A 21-year-old male Hispanic was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Outstanding warrant A traffic stop was initiated in the 1800 block of Sixth around 7:17 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 when officers located a car with a warrant attached to the license plate.
