The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Oct. 31 – Nov. 6, 2010. The following is a breakdown of incident types for this time period:

Sunday, October 31 At 6:18 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported structure fire on East Evergreen Avenue in the City of Monrovia. The fire was out on arrival and Arcadia Fire personnel assisted in overhaul and positive pressure ventilation.
Monday, November 1 At 6:02 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, with one Monrovia Fire unit, responded to a reported traffic collision in the intersection of East Huntington Drive and North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a four-vehicle traffic collision with eight passengers. Fire personnel treated and transported three patients with a variety of traumatic injuries to an area emergency room for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, November 3 At 8:32 a.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, with units from the Monrovia and Pasadena Fire Departments, responded to a multi-vehicle traffic collision on the Eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a four-vehicle accident with five persons involved, one of which required extrication from her vehicle. Fire personnel, evaluated, treated, and transported three critical trauma patients to an area trauma center and two patients to an area emergency room for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, November 05 At 6:29 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a major flooded condition in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a broken fire sprinkler causing a fire alarm. Fire personnel shut off the fire sprinkler system at the location and requested Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance to assist with water removal utilizing water vacuums. The sprinkler head was replaced, and the sprinkler system was restored.
Saturday, November 6 At 8:31 p.m., Truck 105 responded as part of a mutual aid agreement with the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a structure fire in Temple City. Upon arrival, fire personnel provided vertical ventilation for a bedroom fire in a single-family residence.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 588 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Weekly Activity Report During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 6 hours of volunteer activities. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their valuable time last week in assisting the department with administrative duties at the Fire Prevention Bureau and processing emergency medical services forms and paramedic reports. It is worth noting that all volunteers and department personnel who have access to emergency medical services forms and paramedic reports are trained on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule.
