The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 17, 2016 to July 23, 2016. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, July 17th



At 6:33 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of West Le Roy Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find an 82-year-old male complaining of chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and cardiac medication. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.




Monday, July 18th

 At 12:59 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision in the 100 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel assessed a 73-year-old female complaining of wrist and chest pains. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, July 19th

 At 4:41 p.m., Engine 106 responded to an elevator problem in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find five people trapped in a stalled elevator. Fire crews worked to lower the elevator, open the doors, and remove all the occupants. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, July 20th

 At 2:45 p.m., Truck 105 responded to an animal rescue in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a five pound dog with its right front paw entangled in an escalator grate. Fire personnel extricated the dog’s paw by removing part of the escalator platform and grate. The dog’s paw was wrapped with gauze then transported by its owner to a veterinary hospital.

Thursday July 21st

 At 4:10 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 along with units from Monrovia Fire and Rescue and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire to the front of a residential structure in the 00 block of West Palm Drive. Fire personnel arrived on scene and observed numerous trees and bushes on fire with power lines down. Fire crews worked to extinguish the fire in the front yard while also attacking fire spots across the street and downwind from the structure. Southern California Edison arrived on scene to remove the downed power lines.




Friday, July 22nd

 At 8:50 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an 18-year-old female complaining of weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 23rd

 At 3:29 p.m., Engine 105, as part of Brush Strike Team 1204A, responded to the Sand Incident in the city of Santa Clarita. Fire crews assisted with perimeter control and structure defense.

Volunteer Weekly Activity Report

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 46 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 308 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
