The Arcadia Fire Department weekly report for the week of March 12, 2017 to March 18, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 12, 2017 to March 18, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, March 12th

 At 5:59 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue on a fire alarm. Upon arrival, fire crews found an alarm panel indicating a smoke detector activated on the third floor. Investigation revealed contractors, working on the third floor, were using spray paint and had accidentally activated the smoke alarm. The workers were instructed to place the fire alarm system on test mode until completion of the paint job.

Monday, March 13th

 At 4:31 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Battalion 105, Pasadena Fire E37, and Los Angeles County Fire E5 responded to the 500 block of South Old Ranch Road to investigate an odor of natural gas. The residents of the location advised they heard a loud hissing noise and smelled an unusual odor outside. Fire personnel investigated and found a leaking water heater line and the odor of skunk spray. Gas detecting equipment found no traces of leaking natural gas. Fire personnel shut off the water and gas lines to the water heater and requested The Gas Company respond to the location. The scene was released to the residents.

Tuesday, March 14th

 At 3:22 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 700 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an 89-year-old male who had fallen in a parking lot, sustaining minor injuries. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene including cleaning and bandaging his wounds. The patient declined transport to a hospital and was left in the care of a family member.




Wednesday, March 15th

 At 4:34 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the

intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Huntington Drive on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 55-year-old male, with moderate to severe injuries, requiring extrication. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.




Thursday, March 16th

 At 12:05 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Monrovia Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Workman Avenue on a vegetation fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a tree down, lying across the roadway, and smoke to the rear of the location. Fire crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire prior to any loss of structures. Investigation revealed a large section of a tree had fallen, taking down two live power lines, subsequently triggering the vegetation fire. Arcadia Public Works employees responded to the scene and removed the tree from the roadway. Southern California Edison also responded to restore power to the area.




Friday, March 17th

 At 1:43 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 300 block of East Huntington Drive on a major trauma medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 30- year-old female lying on the ground after jumping from a fourth floor window. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including immobilization and intravenous fluids. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, March 18th

 At 12:45 a.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to the 12300 block of Lower Azusa Road a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 28-year-old male experiencing heat exhaustion. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cooling measures and intravenous fluids. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further treatment and evaluation.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.




Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 343 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
