The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 28 – February 3, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, January 28th

At 4:30 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a male patient with head pain after being struck by a flying golf ball. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, January 29th

At 7:07 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1400 block of Oaklawn Road. Fire crews arrived to find a juvenile experiencing seizure-like activity. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, January 30th

At 6:15 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine

107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105 along with units from the Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to a fire in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found moderate smoke in the food court area and an active grease fire in a deep fryer. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the cooking equipment. The automatic ventilation system was able to evacuate the smoke trapped in the food court area. The scene was turned over to the restaurant manager and mall security. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was also notified. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, January 31st

At 1:56 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Squad 101 responded to a person down in the 00 block of North Second Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a middle-aged female in full cardiac arrest. The patient had been down for an extended length of time and could not be resuscitated. The patient was pronounced deceased at scene and released to the Arcadia Police Department.




Thursday, February 1st

At 3:06 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews evaluated an elderly male complaining of a severe headache. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, February 2nd

At 3:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing palpations and dysrhythmia. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12- lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, February 3rd

At 6:07 p.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to a minor flooding call in the 1600 block of Old Oak Lane. Upon arrival, fire personnel assisted with turning off the water supply to a leaking toilet and salvaging undamaged property. In addition, personnel shut off the electrical to area and used a water vacuum to remove the remaining standing water. The incident was released to the homeowner.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 560 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
