The Arcadia Fire Department weekly report for the week of February 19, 2017 to February 25, 2017

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 19, 2017 to February 25, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, February 19th

 At 3:10 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 900 block of Encanto Drive on an animal rescue. Fire crews arrived to find an injured peacock, on a second story balcony, with no access for Los Angeles County Animal Control officers who were already on scene. The peacock appeared to have caused some damage to second floor windows. Fire personnel gained access to the patio through a second story window and were able to assist the peacock to the ground floor and awaiting animal control officers.

Monday, February 20th

 At 2:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 00 block of Alta Street on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient with lower back pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, February 21st

 At 8:37 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 31, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 300 block of Newman Avenue on a report of an electrical fire. Fire personnel arrived on scene and were met by the occupants who stated an electrical outlet was smoking. Fire crews located the outlet, turned off the electrical power to the house, removed the outlet from the wall, and checked for fire and heat in the wall space. The occupants were advised to contact a licensed electrician for service to the outlet.

Wednesday, February 22nd

 At 7:23 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of East Santa Clara Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a female patient experiencing chest pain after undergoing elective surgery earlier in the day. Paramedics took an electronic picture of the patient’s heart rhythm and provided pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further treatment and evaluation.




Thursday, February 23rd

 At 6:38 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to the 5400 block of Peck Road on a medical call. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male experiencing an altered level of consciousness, possibly from a heart attack. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, February 24th

 At 11:23 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 600 block of West Duarte Road on a medical call. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 30-year-old female who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, February 25th

 At 3:08 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 along with units from the Pasadena, San Marino, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to the 500 block of Cortez Road on an appliance fire. San Marino fire crews were first to arrive on scene but did not observe smoke or fire coming from the location. Further investigation revealed plastic materials burning on a stovetop. The fire was quickly extinguished and all additional resources were cancelled. The resident advised he was alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and immediately called 911. Arcadia fire crews secured the stove by unplugging it and shutting down the gas line due to significant heat damage to the stovetop.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 290 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.




Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
