The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 6, 2017 to August 12, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 6th
At 7:12 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 00 block of East Live Oak Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 36-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness after having severe diarrhea for several days. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, August 7th
At 9:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of North First Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a 14-year-old female post- seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including glucose check and intravenous fluid. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, August 8th
At 7:08 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of East Camino Real Avenue and South Sixth Avenue on a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 74-year-old female, lying on the ground, with blunt head trauma after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, wound care, and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, August 9th
At 4:26 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of Laurel Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews arrived to find a female experiencing shortness of breath and flu-like symptoms. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient refused transport by fire personnel but was taken to a local hospital by a private party.
Thursday, August 10th
At 6:38 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 600 block of West Duarte Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 60-year-old female with head pain after a mechanical trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, cervical spine assessment, and pain management. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, August 11th
At 6:21 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find a 20-year-old female who had experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics performed advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring, glucose level monitoring, and intravenous drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, August 12th
At 11:45 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 responded with Monrovia Truck 101 to the 200 block of West Duarte Road, Monrovia, on a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 23-year-old male with multiple injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full cervical immobilization, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 402 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
