The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 22,

Sunday, January 22nd
At 3:23 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 2500 block of El Capitan Avenue on a report of a flooded condition. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered an area in the residence flooded by water draining from a neighboring property caused by heavy rain. Fire personnel assisted the owner in removing the water from the property and diverting it away from the residence.
Monday, January 23rd
At 9:33 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 100 block of Campus Drive on a possible structure fire. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a large amount of steam coming from a mechanical room at the facility. Fire personnel investigated further and determined the machinery was operating properly and released all responding units.
Tuesday, January 24th
At 1:52 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 700 block of West Naomi Avenue on a burn injury. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 41-year-old male with first degree burns on the side of his face after spilling hot tea. Paramedics assessed the patient who refused any treatment and was advised to seek medical attention.
Wednesday, January 25th
At 6:36 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 600 block of Sunset Boulevard on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 90-year-old male experiencing an altered level of consciousness and syncope. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene and transported the patient to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, January 26th
At 2:19 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the Arcadia Police Department, 250 West Huntington Drive, on a miscellaneous call. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female who had placed a pair of privately owned handcuffs on her wrists but did not have a key to unlock them. Fire personnel used extrication tools to remove enough metal material to access the lock with a small screwdriver. Once the handcuffs were removed, the victim was assessed and required no further assistance.

Friday, January 27th
At 10:48 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 200 block of West Palm Drive on a residential fire alarm activation. Fire crews arrived on scene and discovered a mattress with a 1’x 1’ burned area that had been extinguished prior to arrival. The resident stated the fire started after a match was lit and an ember fell onto the mattress. A blanket was used by the resident to smother the fire. The area was examined for any further heat using a thermal imaging camera and none was found. The resident was advised to avoid lighting matches near combustible material.
Saturday, January 28th
At 11:38 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the intersection of West Foothill Boulevard and North Baldwin Avenue on a vehicle fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a single vehicle with a well involved engine compartment fire. Fire personnel deployed a 100’ pre- connected hose line and extinguished the fire.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 104 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 692 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
