The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 26, 2017 to March 4, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, February 26th
At 10:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of Gateway Drive and East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 25-year-old male with arm and hand redness caused by an unknown source. Paramedics provided advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, February 27th
At 3:15 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to the 1000 block of Catalpa Road on a medical assist. Arcadia fire crews arrived to find a female patient feeling overall weakness and began basic life support measures including monitoring vital signs and providing oxygen therapy. Monrovia Squad 101 arrived on scene and assumed care of the patient, providing advanced life support measures. A private ambulance transported the patient to the Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, February 28th
At 10:50 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 700 block of East Camino Grove Avenue on a bee swarm investigation. Fire crews arrived on scene and found bees swarming in the front yard of a residence. Fire personnel created a safe zone and remained at the location until the swarm moved on.
Wednesday, March 1st
At 7:24 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of West La Sierra Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who experienced a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, March 2nd
At 1:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 600 block of Fairview Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 54-year-old male with low blood sugar. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access with drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, March 3rd
At 3:45 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 106, Rescue
Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, along with Hazardous Material Units from Glendale Fire Department, Vernon Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a hazardous material investigation. Upon arrival, fire personnel were advised that multiple suspicious packages, containing an unknown substance, were found inside a business. The area was evacuated for several hours while Hazmat Units tested the substances for identification. Once identified, the packages were removed and the area was safe to re-enter. The scene was released to the Arcadia Police Department for further investigation. Representatives from Los Angeles County Public Health, FBI, and the U.S. Postal Service also responded to the scene.
Saturday, March 4th
At 1:58 p.m., Truck 105 and San Marino Rescue Ambulance 91 responded to the 100 block of West Longden Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 274 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 56 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
