Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report February 8 to February 14

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 1,088 / 130 Total Year to Date for 2015 6,630 / 778

For the period of Sunday, February 8th, through Saturday, February 14th, the Arcadia Police Department responded to 1,088 calls for service of which 130 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, February 8:

  1. Just before 1:37 a.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Huntington Drive and Sunset Avenue for being parked in a fire lane. Upon contacting the driver, the officer noticed the 50-year-old male was asleep and there was a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, in plain sight along with an open can of beer inside the vehicle. He was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of an Open Container in a Motor Vehicle and was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At approximately 8:46 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 5400 block of South Peck Road for expired registration. A records check of the occupants revealed several outstanding misdemeanor warrants. A consensual search of the vehicle revealed glass pipes, a loaded firearm with the serial number removed, and a stolen driver’s license. The 34-year-old male driver and 26-year-old female passenger were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, February 9:

  1. At about 7:37 a.m., an officer responded to 1300 South Golden West Avenue regarding a theft of oil in progress. An investigation revealed a 57-year-old male was seen syphoning kitchen grease with the intention of selling the recycled oil. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At approximately 7:04 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of Genoa Street regarding a robbery report that occurred earlier in the day. Near the intersection of Duarte Road and Second Avenue, a female victim was pushed and had her cell phone stolen by an unknown White male while waiting for the bus. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is described as a White male, approximately 25-years-old, 5’4”, 160 pounds.

Tuesday, February 10:

  1. Around 10:30 a.m., an officer responded to the 800 block of Fairview Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect broke the front passenger window and stole the victim’s purse and contents. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

  2. Just after 6:50 p.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1200 block of South Baldwin Avenue for expired registration. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 33-year-old female was driving with a suspended license. She was cited and released in the field. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Wednesday, February 11:

  1. Shortly after 9:35 a.m., an officer responded to the 400 block of Cortez Drive regarding a report of grand theft from vehicle. The officer determined an unknown suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s purse. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

  2. At about 3:27 p.m., an officer responded to Sephora at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding two suspects in custody for shoplifting. The loss prevention agent witnessed two 17-year-old females conceal merchandise in their purses and exit the store failing to make payment. Both females were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, February 12:

  1. At approximately 2:39 a.m., an officer initiated an enforcement stop on a reported stolen vehicle in the area of Fifth Avenue and Santa Clara Street. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed large quantities of narcotics intended for sale, burglary tools, drug paraphernalia, a juvenile passenger, stolen credit cards, checks, and other identifiable information. A 42-year-old male, a 46-year-old female, and a 34-year-old female were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. Department of Child And Family Services was notified and the 14-year-old juvenile was released to his father.

  2. Around 8:29 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Huntington Drive and Holly Avenue for speeding. The officer determined the suspect, an 18-year-old male, was driving 100 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. He was cited and released in the field. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Friday, February 13:

  1. Just after 1:40 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Longden Avenue and Sixth Avenue regarding a man with a gun. Officers located the 26-year-old male who said he was transferring his pellet gun from one vehicle to another. A consensual search of the subject revealed a dagger concealed in his front pocket. He was cited and released in the field.

  2. At about 5:26 p.m., an officer responded to the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a subject causing a disturbance. Officers located the subject and noticed white residue emitting from his right nostril. Through a series of tests, officers concluded the 41-year-old male was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, February 14:

  1. Just after 9:40 a.m., an officer responded to the 000 West Duarte Road regarding a non-injury, hit and run traffic collision. Party-1 was seen backing out of a parking spot when they hit the front bumper of Party-2 before fleeing without providing documentation. Party-1 is described as a dark beige SUV. The investigation is ongoing.

  2. At approximately 10:26 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue regarding a burglary report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect broke in through a rear window, ransacked the bedrooms, and fled undetected with an unknown amount of property. No witnesses were located. The investigation is ongoing.
