For the period of Sunday, April 3, through Saturday, April 9, the Police Department responded to 861 calls for service of which 125 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, April 3:
Just after 9:15 a.m., an officer responded to Embassy Suites, 211 East Huntington Drive, regarding a grand theft report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect stole the victim’s bag from their dining room table. The investigation is ongoing pending review of surveillance footage.
Around 7:43 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 000 block of Alta Street regarding a burglary. Surveillance footage revealed an unidentified suspect entered the residence by smashing the rear sliding glass door and looked around the house before fleeing. The loss is unknown at this time. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a white hooded sweatshirt and white pants. The suspect was gone prior to the officers’ arrival. The investigation is ongoing.
Monday, April 4:
At about 7:42 p.m., an officer responded to the 900 block of South Fourth Avenue regarding an activation of an Arcadia Police Department GPS tracker. Arcadia PD detectives had previously deployed decoy packages containing bait property and tracking devices to combat the increase in package thefts from residential areas. An investigation revealed a 27-year-old male from Temple City admitted to taking the package containing the tracking device and more than $1,500 worth of property. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At approximately 7:47 p.m., an officer responded to Albertson, 298 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. A store employee witnessed the suspect steal a bottle of alcohol before exiting the store, failing to make payment. The 35-year-old male from Glendale fled on foot when he was approached by officers. He was located after a short foot pursuit. A records check revealed the suspect had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Tuesday, April 5:
Around 12:36 p.m., an officer responded to Victoria’s Secret at Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a grand theft report. A loss prevention specialist witnessed the suspect conceal numerous items in his pants before exiting the store, failing to make payment. The loss prevention specialist recognized the suspect from three previous incidents of theft from stores in the San Gabriel Valley. The 21-year-old male from San Bernardino is outstanding at the time of this report.
Just after 4:13 p.m., an officer initiated contact with the driver of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Subway restaurant, 411 East Huntington Drive. The Automated License Plate Reader System (ALPRS) alerted the officer that the vehicle was stolen. Upon contacting the driver, the 25-year-old female from Victorville admitted to being in possession of the stolen vehicle for the past month and a records check of her and her occupant, a 38-year-old male from Portland, Oregon, revealed both had outstanding misdemeanor warrants. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed more than two pounds of marijuana. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Shortly after 11:20 p.m., officers responded to Extended Stay, 401 East Santa Clara Street, regarding a fraud report. The hotel staff requested one of the guests vacate the premises because the room had been booked under fraudulent means. Officers contacted the 38-year-old female from Covina and discovered methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe inside the room. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Wednesday, April 6:
At about 11:33 a.m., an officer responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a criminal threat report. The officer discovered an altercation occurred on Sunday, April 3rd between two gym patrons resulting in one of the patrons being asked to leave. An hour later, the patron returned and threatened the gym manager by simulating a gun with his hands and fingers. The suspect, a 39-year-old male from Los Angeles, continued to call the victim numerous times a day over the next three days. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is outstanding at the time of this report.
Thursday, April 7:
At approximately 11:08 a.m., an officer responded to Rite Aid, 165 East Foothill Boulevard, regarding a petty theft report. An employee claimed the store’s security sensor alarm sounded after a subject carrying a bag fled the store. The subject was located and during a consensual search of the subject’s bag, stolen property was recovered. The 31-year-old male from Hollywood was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Around 3:24 p.m., an officer responded to the area of Longden Avenue and Myrtle Avenue regarding an activation of an Arcadia Police Department GPS tracker. An investigation revealed a 49-year-old male from Whittier and a 33-year-old female from Baldwin Park had the stolen package, property, and tracking device in their vehicle. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Friday, April 8:
At about 5:42 p.m., an officer responded to U.S. Bank, 1400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a vehicle burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect broke the front passenger window of the vehicle and stole a purse containing cash, a checkbook and credit cards. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Just after 11:02 p.m., an officer responded to the area of Baldwin Avenue and Fairview Avenue regarding a non-injury solo vehicle traffic collision. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the suspect had been driving under the influence of alcohol when he collided with a parked car. The 36-year-old male from Ventura was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Saturday, April 9:
Just after 6 p.m., officers responded to Santa Anita Park Race Track, 285 West Huntington Drive, regarding multiple subjects causing a disturbance during a music and beer festival on the infield. Officers discovered that race track security guards had detained two subjects for battery and public intoxication. A 26-year-old male from Hacienda Heights and a 28-year-old male from Ontario were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At approximately 8 p.m., an officer responded to Claire’s at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. A loss prevention specialist witnessed the suspect conceal several pairs of earrings in her pocket before exiting the store, failing to make payment. The 44-year-old female from Duarte was cited and released at the scene.
