Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report March 23 to March 29

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 1,011 / 107 Total Year to Date for 2014 12,815 / 1,572

For the period of Sunday, March 23rd, through Saturday, March 29th, the Police Department responded to 1,011 calls for service of which 107 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, March 23:

1. Just after 5:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to JC Penney at Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. A 55-year-old male concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without making payment. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

2. Around 7:28 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration in the 400 block of Santa Anita Avenue. The officer discovered the passenger, a 31-year-old Hispanic male, was in possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, March 24:

3. At about 4:17 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Live Oak Avenue and Peck Road for having no front license plate. The officer discovered the driver, a 44-year-old male, was never issued a license. He was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his vehicle was impounded.

4. Just after 7:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to CVS Pharmacy, 1401 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a subject spray painting the building. Officers located the 18-year-old male to the rear of the location as he was tagging various monikers with black spray paint. He was arrested for Vandalism and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, March 25:

5. Around 5:25 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a broken tail light on First Avenue, south of Camino Real Avenue. An investigation revealed the driver was in possession of a fraudulent credit card. The 29-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

6. Just before 2:45 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1600 block of South Mayflower Avenue regarding a report of an attempted scam. The victim received a phone call from an unknown subject who claimed to be from a “Special Unit of the IRS”. The subject told the victim he owed the IRS a large sum of money and needed to make payment immediately or else the IRS would “take legal action”. The victim realized it was a scam and hung up the phone. An online search revealed the suspect telephone phone number is associated with other similar scams. The officer advised the victim not to give out any personal information.

Wednesday, March 26:

7. At approximately 2:58 p.m., an officer attempted to make contact with a suspicious subject standing near a vehicle on South Second Avenue near Fano Street, but the subject ran away. After a short foot pursuit, the 33-year-old male subject was detained in the 200 block of El Dorado Street. While being transported to the Arcadia City Jail booking, the suspect attempted to swallow an unknown number of pills, which he had hidden inside his socks or shoes. He was ultimately transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation and placed on a psychiatric hold.

8. Around 3:33 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a theft report. The victim explained her cell phone was stolen from Dave and Buster’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. She left her phone unattended at a game station and discovered it missing a few minutes later. No witnesses were located.

Thursday, March 27:

9. Shortly before 2:00 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. While reviewing his checking account, the victim discovered someone cashed a check for $1,900, which he did not authorize. The victim discovered the check was fraudulent and had no idea how his personal information was compromised. The suspect(s) identity is unknown.

10. At about 9:04 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a broken tail light in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and El Dorado Street. The officer discovered the 25-year-old male driver provided false information; however, a records check revealed he had a suspended license and two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, March 28:

11. Around 3:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Victoria’s Secret at Westfield Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. Video surveillance revealed two suspects, one male and one female, concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without making payment. The total loss was $1,620 in underwear. No one reported seeing or hearing anything suspicious.

12. At approximately 5:00 p.m., an officer responded to Nordstrom at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding an embezzlement report. Loss prevention officers discovered an employee stole approximately $4,000 from various cash registers while working over the course of three and half months. The 61-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, March 29:

13. Just after 9:24 p.m., officers working DUI Saturation Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a broken tail light in the area of Huntington Drive and the 210 freeway. An investigation revealed the driver, a 44-year-old male, was under the influence of cocaine. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

14. At about 11:23 p.m., officers made consensual contact with a subject riding his skateboard on Randolph Street near Peck Road. A search of his person revealed he was in possession of concentrated cannabis and two Xanax pills. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
