Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report May 31 to June 6

For the period of Sunday, May 31st, through Saturday, June 6th, the Police Department responded to 893 calls for service of which 122 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, May 31:
Just before 9:00 a.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of South Fifth Avenue regarding gunshots reported in the area. Officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing. (Arcadia’s Best update June 11 here.)
At approximately 1:45 p.m., an officer responded to Sports Chalet at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. Surveillance footage revealed two juvenile females concealed numerous items of merchandise in their purses and exited the store without paying. The girls were found with stolen items from various stores throughout the mall. The 16-year-old female from Duarte and 15-year-old female from Monrovia were cited and released to their parents.
Monday, June 1:
At about 8:18 a.m., an officer initiated consensual contact with a man in the Arcadia County Park, 405 South Santa Anita Avenue. A records check revealed the 43-year-old male from Rosemead was on probation for possession of drugs. A search of the individual and his possessions revealed methamphetamine and personal identifying information of more than ten victims. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At approximately 6:24 p.m., an officer responded to the Westfield Shopping Town, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding an auto burglary report. An unknown suspect smashed the driver’s side front window and stole a shopping bag and phone charger from the vehicle. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Tuesday, June 2:
Around 3:04 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of South Golden West Avenue regarding a vandalism report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect spray painted “BLINK” on the side of the apartment complex sometime during the previous month. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Just after 11:05 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Colorado Place and Huntington Drive for driving with a broken windshield. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 49-year-old male from Sun Valley was driving with a suspended license. The suspect was cited and released in the field. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Wednesday, June 3:
Shortly after 6:30 a.m., officers responded to LA Fitness, 1325 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a battery report. Officers determined a husband and wife were arguing when the female punched the victim twice in the arm without causing injury. The 60-year-old female of Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At about 4:12 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. Macy’s loss prevention witnessed the 55-year-old female place merchandise in a shopping bag and exit the store without paying. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, June 4:
At approximately 11:06 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of East Lemon Avenue regarding an attempted burglary report. The victim stated she heard several knocks at her front door followed by the sound of two suspects tampering with the window screen in her backyard. The victim yelled at the suspects causing them to flee on foot. Both suspects are described as teenage females. No vehicle was seen. The investigation is ongoing.
Around 7:44 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Huntington Drive and Morlan Place for having expired registration. However, the license plate displayed the current 2015 tag. The suspect admitted to unlawfully placing a 2015 registration sticker on the vehicle. The 54-year-old male of San Pedro was cited and released in the field.
Friday, June 5:
Just after 1:02 a.m., an officer responded to the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin, regarding a stolen vehicle report. The victim’s 1996 Acura Integra was stolen from the parking lot sometime during the previous evening. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At about 4:15 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Sandra Avenue regarding a grand theft report. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) cut the lock to two mountain bikes that were secured inside the carport. The investigation is ongoing.
Saturday, June 6:
Just after 10:09 a.m., an officer investigated a case of vandalism at Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive. The officer discovered an unknown suspect used black spray paint to write “LYFK” on a block wall just east of the AHS tennis courts. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At approximately 2:46 p.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the Arcadia Police Department regarding a missing child report. The child, a resident of San Marino, was dropped off at Arcadia High School to take her SAT exam at 7:40 a.m. She was not at the school when her father returned to pick her up at 12:30 p.m. A follow up investigation determined that the child had run away and was not a victim of a crime in the City of Arcadia. As such, the San Marino Police Department assumed investigation of the case. On June 9th, San Marino Police Department reported the child had been reunited with her family.
