Missing 81-year-old man found

After Arcadia Police issued a missing person alert over the weekend for 81-year-old Julius Tinsley, Jr., of Arcadia, his body was found early Sunday morning over the side of the mountain off Hwy 18 toward Big Bear.

He was lying dead about 300 feet down an embankment below his silver 2007 Toyota Matrix, parked in a turnout area.

There are no signs of foul play, but the final cause of death is under investigation by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department/Coroner.

Tinsley, nicknamed “Cotton,” went missing on New Year’s Eve after last being seen on Thursday outside his home in the 600 block of Fairview Ave. The California Highway Patrol located the car at about 12:30 a.m.  in the San Bernardino National Forest. The vehicle was parked (unoccupied) in a turnout along highway 18 approximately 2 miles north of the Snow Valley ski resort.

Officials from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and Arcadia Police Department responded to the location of the car.  A search and rescue operation was conducted by SBSD Search & Rescue, who located the body, which was then identified by San Bernardino Coroner investigators.
