A power outage hit a large area of Arcadia about 3 p.m. Monday that spanned from Baldwin Avenue down Huntington Drive to as far away as First Avenue and included the Westfield Santa Anita mall, the Senior/Community Center, medical offices in the parking lot of Santa Anita Park, and businesses several blocks south of Huntington on First Avenue.
The outage, caused by a blown transformer near Baldwin and Huntington Drive lasted 90 minutes in some areas and hours in others. Signal lights stopped working completely in major intersections, including Baldwin/Huntington, as well as one of the country’s most complicated seven-point intersections at Holly Avenue, Campus Drive, and Huntington. After about an hour a city vehicle came and put up two portable stop signs in the northbound lanes of Holly Avenue at Campus and at Huntington.
Southern California Edison eventually restored power to the customers in the area but the traffic signal at Baldwin and Huntington remained out of service and was expected to remain that way until 6 a.m., Tuesday, April 5th, according to an alert sent Monday evening by Arcadia Police.
