Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report June 22 to June 28

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 1,026 / 108 Total Year to Date for 2014 26,250 / 3,233

For the period of Sunday, June 22nd, through Saturday, June 28th, the Police Department responded to 1,026 calls for service of which 108 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, June 22:

1. Just after 00:20 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for tinted windows in the area of Peck Road and Goldring Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. An investigation revealed the 26-year-old male driver was under the influence with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

2. Around 7:06 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Live Oak Avenue for a warrant attached to the license plate. The officer discovered the warrant belonged to the driver, a 31-year-old female, who also had a suspended license. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, June 23:

3. At about 3:06 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Wilson Avenue regarding a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a rear door and ransacked cabinets in a hallway. No physical evidence was located and no one reported seeing or hearing anything suspicious. The total loss was unknown at the time of the report.

4. At approximately 7:34 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Live Oak Avenue and Las Tunas Drive regarding a three-car traffic collision. Party-1 failed to stop for traffic ahead and rear-ended Party-2, which forced Party-2 into the rear of Party-3. Two victims were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for neck and back pain. An investigation revealed the driver in Party-1, a 55-year-old male, was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested for DUI Resulting in Bodily Injury and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, June 24:

5. Just after 1:45 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding three juvenile theft suspects fleeing the location on foot. The responding officer conducted an area check and located the suspects climbing over a patio wall to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. The suspects, one 13-year-old male and two 14-year-old males, were detained without incident. An investigation revealed they were in possession of stolen property from Sport Chalet, Zumiez, and Foot Motion. They were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

6. Around 11:06 p.m., an officer made consensual contact with two subjects walking in the area of East Live Oak Avenue and Peck Road. The officer discovered one of the subjects, a 36-year-old male, was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, June 25:

7. Around 10:37 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 000 block of Pepperglen Drive regarding a domestic dispute. During a child exchange at the location, a husband became aggressive with his wife while arguing, grabbed her wrist, and stole her cell phone as she attempted to call the police. The 40-year-old male suspect responded to the Arcadia Police Department lobby to return the phone. Shortly after, he was arrested for Battery and Robbery. He was escorted to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

8. At about 4:45 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Duarte Road and First Avenue for a broken tail light and expired registration. An investigation revealed the 28-year-old female driver was in possession of a hydrocodone pill without a prescription. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, June 26:

9. Shortly after 7:50 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Huntington Drive and Centennial Way regarding a possible intoxicated subject stumbling into lanes of traffic. The officer determined the 54-year-old male carrying a 24-ounces can of beer was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

10. At about 3:25 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 2000 block of South Fourth Avenue regarding a theft report. The elderly victim received a phone call from a man impersonating his nephew. The suspect explained he was in a car accident and needed money immediately. The victim sent the suspect approximately $1,200 via Moneygram and later realized it was a scam when he spoke to his real nephew who explained he never called him or got into an accident.

Friday, June 27:

11. Around 3:45 p.m., an officer responded to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, regarding a female subject passed out in the parking lot. The officer discovered the subject was unresponsive and incoherent. Her boyfriend was also passed out inside their hotel room with their two young children, ages seven and ten. Monrovia Fire responded to the scene and provided treatment to both subjects. An investigation revealed the 29-year-old female and 31-year-old male of unknown race were under the influence of multiple prescription medications, including muscle relaxers. Both subjects were arrested for Child Cruelty and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

12. Shortly after 6:10 p.m., an officer responded to Sport Chalet at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a combative theft suspect. As loss prevention officers attempted to detain a juvenile for theft, the suspect physically resisted and fought with officers to get away. Ultimately, the 17-year-old male was apprehended and stolen merchandise was found on his person. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, June 28:

13. Around 00:30 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a bicyclist on eastbound Huntington Drive at Fifth Avenue for no lighting equipment. A search of the bicyclist revealed she was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. The 41-year-old female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

14. At about 6:38 p.m., an officer responded to the Santa Anita Race Track (SART), 285 West Huntington Drive, regarding a disturbance. SART security officers attempted to escort a large party off the premises after causing a dispute in the Club House. As the party argued with SART officers, one of the subjects, a 44-year-old male of unknown race, brandished a knife. As the subject was detained, two adult females attacked the SART officers by hitting them in the face and head. All three subjects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
