Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report Feb.. 1 – Feb. 7, 2015

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 1,079 / 97 Total Year to Date for 2015 5,542 / 648

For the period of Sunday, February 1st, through Saturday, February 7th, the Police Department responded to 1,079 calls for service of which 97 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, February 1:

  1. Just before 1:30 a.m., an officer conducted a records check on a vehicle parked at the Los Angeles County Park, 405 South Santa Anita Avenue, and discovered it was stolen from the City of Montclair. The vehicle was found unoccupied with the keys on the front seat. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located. The victim was notified.

  2. At approximately 7:17 p.m., an officer responded to the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a suspect in custody for theft. An investigation revealed the suspect removed the security tags from two bottles of perfume and placed them in a shopping bag before exiting the store, failing to make payment. The 24-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, February 2:

  1. At about 1:56 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Mayflower Avenue and Live Oak Avenue for not having a front license plate. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. A series of tests confirmed the driver had a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08%. The 42-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At approximately 9:24 p.m., an officer responded to Victoria’s Secret at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a report of grand theft. The officer determined four unknown suspects selected numerous items of underwear and bras, concealed the property in their shopping bags, and fled without making payment. The total loss was valued at more than $1,900.00. The suspects are described as three Black females and one Black male. The investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday, February 3:

  1. Around 10:03 a.m., an officer responded to the 1200 block of North Santa Anita Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary report. The victim found her vehicle with a smashed front window and noticed her purse was stolen. The suspects attempted to make two online purchases with the victim’s credit cards. The investigation is ongoing.

  2. Just after 2:22 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Bank of America, 180 North Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a suspicious circumstance. An investigation revealed three unknown suspects convinced a 26-year-old Asian female to withdraw more than $500.00 by stating one of the suspects was suffering from Leukemia. The suspects attempted to have the victim withdraw another $700.00 but the victim grew suspicious and the suspects fled. Suspect #1 is described as a Middle Eastern man in his 50’s, with long black hair, approximately 5’9” tall, and weighing roughly 180 pounds. Suspect #2 is described as a Middle Eastern female between 30 and 40-years-old, approximately 5’3” tall, with long brown hair. Suspect #3 is described as a Middle Eastern female between 30 and 40-years-old, 5’4” tall, 180 pounds, with dark black hair. The suspects appeared to be gypsies. The suspects were driving a dark colored BMW. The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday, February 4:

  1. Shortly after 11:25 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue regarding a female suspect seen stealing mail. Officers located the 48-year-old female with the stolen property. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At about 9:36 p.m., an officer responded to Denny’s, 7 East Huntington Drive, regarding a domestic disturbance report. The officer discovered a boyfriend and girlfriend were arguing when the male suspect grabbed her and scratched her. The 36-year-old Male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The victim did not seek medical attention.

Thursday, February 5:

  1. At approximately 7:52 a.m., an officer initiated consensual contact with a male subject in the parking lot of Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, who was currently on felony probation for narcotics. A consensual search of the subject’s vehicle revealed several bank account inquiries from different account holders as well as a forged driver’s license. The officer also located a scale with marijuana residue on it. The 25-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. Around 5:36 p.m., an officer conducted a DMV check on a vehicle parked in the Arco Gas Station, 5 West Foothill Boulevard, and noticed the vehicle displayed a valid 2015 sticker, however had expired registration. The officer made contact with the driver who acknowledged the 2015 sticker did not belong on his vehicle. The 53-year-old male was cited and released in the field.

Friday, February 6:

  1. Just after 10:20 a.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the Arcadia Police Department regarding a fraud report. The victim stated he paid the suspect $8,000.00 for a vehicle, but the suspect never delivered the car. The suspect is a 64-year-old White male. The investigation is ongoing.

  2. At about 11:05 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of West Duarte Road regarding a burglary report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect may have used a pellet gun to break the window before ransacking the home, and fleeing undetected. The investigation is ongoing.

Saturday, February 7:

  1. Just after 10:37 a.m., an officer responded to May’s Department Store, 116 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a vandalism report. The victim stated they found the front window to the business with a 2’ circular hole in it. The vandalism occurred sometime during the previous evening. No other property from the store was missing or damaged. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

  2. At approximately 9:59 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a suspect in custody for petty theft. The 32-year-old female purchased some items, but failed to pay for the merchandise she concealed in her purse. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
