The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of May 5 – 11, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time
period:
Sunday, May 5
At 12:17 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 100 block of South First Avenue for an
outdoor type of fire. Fire personnel arrived to find a homeless person burning cardboard
for lighting and warmth. The fire was extinguished, and the person was detained by
Arcadia Police Department for questioning.
Monday, May 6
At 6:04 p.m., Engine 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue for an
animal rescue request. Fire personnel arrived to find a kitten hiding inside of a vehicle’s
engine compartment and were able to remove the kitten from the center console. The
kitten was freed without harm and was released to Humane Society. No damage occurred
to the vehicle.
Tuesday, May 7
At 9:33 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of East
Live Oak Avenue for a reported auto versus pedestrian accident. Fire personnel arrived
to find a 74-year-old female suffering from chest pain. The patient received a 12-lead
electrocardiogram and blood glucose testing but refused further care and transportation.
Wednesday, May 8
At 6:46 p.m., USAR 106 and Battalion 105 assisted Sierra Madre Fire Department with a
reported mountain rescue. Upon arrival, Arcadia units were notified of an elderly male
hiker that had fallen off the Mount Wilson Trail approximately 1.5 miles up the trail. Arcadia
units along with Sierra Madre Search and Rescue members ascended the trail and found
the patient 100 feet below the trail in steep rocky terrain. Rope rescue systems were
established to raise the patient back up to the trail, where he was evaluated as stable.
The patient was loaded into a stokes basket for extrication off the mountain side and was
transferred into an awaiting ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, May 9
At 3:11 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, there was an 80-year-old
patient with a complaint of weakness and chest pain. Fire personnel performed a full
medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure check, and an
electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
Friday, May 10
At 8:24 p.m., Engine 107, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and units from Monrovia Fire
Department responded to an automatic aid response for a structure fire in the 600 block
of West Foothill Boulevard. Engine 107 was assigned to assist with fire attack, Truck 105
was assigned to Rapid Intervention Crew, and Battalion 105 was assigned as Incident
Safety Officer. The fire started in a bedroom of the structure and spread to a common
attic. The fire was contained, and Investigator 8 was dispatched for the investigation.
Saturday, May 11
At 10:18 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue
Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 1700 block of North Santa Anita
Avenue for a reported residential structure fire. Fire personnel arrived to find an outdoor
fire pit; all units were released.
