Fire Department Weekly Report - week of September 3 – 9, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 3 – 9, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 3 At 3:38 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the intersection of Duarte Road and Sunset Boulevard. Fire personnel arrived to find a 21-year-old male with a blunt force injury to the left side of his back. During the evaluation, the patient was adamant that he was refusing further treatment and transportation. The incident was released to Arcadia Police Department for investigation. Monday, September 4 At 5:56 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the first block of Campus Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 92-year-old female who was complaining of weakness from low blood pressure. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid replacement, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, September 5 At 4:51 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the 100 block of Bonita Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 85-year-old female who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including breathing treatment, cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, September 6 At 4:09 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 97-year-old female with a complaint of shortness of breath. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure check, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, September 7 At 1:33 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 12300 block of Lower Azusa Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 25-year- old male who was suffering from general weakness with fever. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.


Friday, September 8 At 7:36 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 101, Rescue Ambulance 105,

and units from Monrovia Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of South Fifth Avenue and Genoa Street. The incident was reported as a two-car traffic collision with a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, there were two vehicles that were fully involved with fire and three burn patients. Fire personnel extinguished the vehicle fires utilizing a 13⁄4” hose line and foam. One patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital and two patients were transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center.


Saturday, September 9 At 10:35 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 101, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Squad 102, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported house fire in the 300 block of San Antonio Road. Upon arrival, there was a single-story residential structure with smoke coming from the attic. Fire personnel quickly deployed hose lines, established a water supply, and began attacking the fire. Engine 105 personnel assisted Engine 107 personnel with a primary search inside the involved unit and reported the structure was clear of any occupants. Truck 105 was assigned to ventilation group and to coordinate efforts with Engine 107 personnel for ventilation needs. Truck 101 personnel were assigned to rapid intervention crew (RIC), a dedicated crew utilized in the event of a firefighter down during the incident. A second alarm assignment was requested for additional personnel to assist with the operation. Engine 102 was assigned to Salvage to protect the contents inside the structure during firefighting operations. Engine 107, Engine 105, and Engine 37 personnel were able to knock down the fire within 60 minutes after arriving on scene. All personnel extensively overhauled the structure by opening the interior drywall and checking for any possible heat signatures on the thermal imaging camera. No heat signatures were found after overhaul. A building department inspector responded to the scene and issued an uninhabitable red tag on the structure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
