Fire Department Weekly Report - week of September 17 – 23, 2023


The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 17 – 23, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 17 At 7:25 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of South Eighth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 75-year- old female who was suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluids, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, September 18 At 8:22 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an outside fire, and fire personnel utilized a hose line to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the area of origin and there was no extension into the structure. Fire Investigator 105 was dispatched to the incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Tuesday, September 19 At 2:50 p.m., Engine 105 was requested by Verdugo Dispatch to assist a private resident with an animal rescue in the 100 block of West Naomi Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 3-month-old kitten that was stuck in a tree. The kitten was approximately 30 feet high, and fire personnel utilized an extension ladder to gain access to the kitten. The kitten was successfully removed from the tree and there were no injuries associated with the incident. Wednesday, September 20 At 9:14 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a report of victims trapped inside an elevator near the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a stalled elevator car with four occupants inside. Fire personnel gained access to the control room where the elevator system was reset electronically. Once the system was reset, fire personnel were able to extricate the occupants from the elevator car without injury or damage. All occupants did not require medical assistance and were released on scene. A repair technician arrived to troubleshoot the problem and for repair. The elevator car was placed out-of-service and the property management company was notified. Thursday, September 21 At 4:32 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 700 block of Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two- vehicle traffic collision. One patient complained of chest and back pain from the accident and the second patient complained of head pain. Fire personnel obtained a full set of vital signs, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and both patients were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Arcadia Police Department provided traffic control and assisted with removal of the vehicles from the roadway. Friday, September 22 At 1:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 75-year- old female who was suffering from hip pain after falling. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with pain medication, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, September 23 At 8:13 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 31- year-old female who was suffering from an active seizure. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
