Fire Department Weekly Report - week of May 14 – 20, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 14 – 20, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, May 14 At 8:39 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, and units from Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of West Arthur Avenue. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke and fire coming from the side of the house. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained the fire to the building of origin. In addition, fire personnel searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, and provided firefighter safety.

Monday, May 15 At 7:44 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a report of victims trapped inside an elevator in the 600 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a stalled elevator car with one occupant inside. Fire personnel gained access to the elevator control room where the elevator car was electrically reset. Specialized tools were used to open the elevator doors. The occupant required no medical assistance and was released on scene. The elevator car was placed out-of-service and the property management company was contacted for repair. Tuesday, May 16 At 2:20 p.m., Engine 102, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported structure fire near the 300 block of South First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel located light smoke inside the auditorium area. Fire personnel ascended to the roof and located a malfunctioning air conditioning unit. Fire personnel removed the smoke from the auditorium with high- powered blowers for positive pressure ventilation. After further investigation, fire personnel located a burnt fan belt on the air conditioning unit that caused the malfunction.

Wednesday, May 17 At 10:38 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 300 block of Huntington Drive for a hazard investigation. Fire crews arrived to find a large tree across the westbound lanes of Huntington Drive. Fire crews cleared the tree and removed the remaining debris to open the flow of traffic. Thursday, May 18 At 3:28 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 2000 block of Third Avenue for a person suffering from shortness of breath. Firefighters arrived and found a 68-year-old female that had difficulty breathing. Paramedics began advanced life support procedures including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and respiratory therapies. The patient experienced relief from her symptoms and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, May 19 At 1:03 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 66-year- old male who was suffering from abdominal pain form possible upper gastrointestinal bleed. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid challenge, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, May 20 At 9:27 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a vehicle fire in the 1100 block of Drake Road. Firefighters found wire looms in a vehicle that were smoldering throughout the vehicle. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire; however, the vehicle was a total loss.
