Fire Department Weekly Report - week of July 9 - 15, 2023


The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 9 - 15, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:



Sunday, July 9 At 9:55 p.m., Engine 106 responded to an animal rescue call in the 700 block of West Naomi Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a small cat inside the engine compartment of a vehicle. The cat did not belong to the vehicle’s owner. As soon as fire crews shined a flashlight on the cat, it jumped out and ran off into nearby bushes. The cat did not appear injured and no further action was taken. Monday, July 10 At 12:01 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision on the westbound 210 Freeway. Fire personnel arrived to find an injured solo motorcyclist down. Paramedics assessed the patient, finding multiple lacerations and facial trauma. Fire personnel recommended transport to a local hospital for additional care and treatment; however, the patient declined any further assistance. Tuesday, July 11 At 2:47 p.m., Truck 105 and Engine 106 responded to an elevator rescue in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple occupants trapped in an elevator car. Fire crews reset the elevator control systems and removed all occupants within minutes of their arrival. The occupants were not injured and did not require medical attention. Wednesday, July 12 At 4:11 p.m., Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Firefighters arrived to find a stalled elevator car with two occupants inside. Fire personnel gained access to the elevator control room where the elevator system was reset electronically. The uninjured occupants were then extricated without causing damage to the elevator car. The elevator car was placed out-of-service and the property management company was contacted for repair. Thursday, July 13 At 11:39 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 71-year-old male exhibiting stroke-like symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient and identified the patient was experiencing a stroke. Paramedics provided a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose level check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to the Comprehensive Stroke Center at USC Arcadia for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, July 14 At 9:18 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find a 40-year-old male in cardiac arrest. Paramedics performed CPR and provided assisted ventilations, 12-lead electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, administered cardiac medications, and were able to obtain a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). The patient was transported to the STEMI receiving center at USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 15 At 7:30 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision involving pedestrians at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Highland Oaks Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters assessed two pedestrians that were involved in the traffic collision. The first patient was a 38-year-old male with head trauma and abrasions to his extremities. The second patient was a 6-year-old child with minor leg and arm abrasions. Paramedics conducted a full trauma assessment including 12-lead electrocardiogram and complete set of vital signs. Both patients were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
