Fire Department Weekly Report -week of July 23 - 29, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 23 - 29, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, July 23

At 5:08 a.m., Engine 106 responded to an alarm activation in the 400 block of Harvard Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a residence with the occupants evacuated to the front of the location. The alarm activation was a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters monitored the interior atmosphere utilizing a multi-gas detector, but all carbon monoxide levels were within normal limits. Since no safety issues existed, the residents were allowed to re-enter their home.

Monday, July 24

At 5:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 3- year-old toddler suffering from head pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures including cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, July 25

At 12:01 p.m., Engine 105,

Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a vault fire at South Second Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from under the bridge, from a burning encampment. Fire crews searched for victims, ventilated the area, and performed suppression activities. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was transported. City engineers cleared the bridge for normal traffic. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Wednesday, July 26 At 9:12 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a public assistance call in the 100 block of Kari Way. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly male requesting assistance lifting himself back into bed. Firefighters assisted the gentleman as requested, evaluated him, and released him to the care of his family. Thursday, July 27 At 6:52 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 32, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105 responded to the eastbound 210 Freeway on a traffic collision. Firefighters arrived to find a four-vehicle traffic collision and two patients requiring treatment and transportation. Paramedics arrived to find one patient altered due to injuries that occurred during a rollover. Both patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, July 28 At 11:33 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 101, Engine 102, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a commercial fire in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find the occupants evacuated and reporting smoke on the second floor. Firefighters quickly reached the second floor to find the smell of smoke only. Truck 105 utilized the aerial ladder to ascend to the roof of the building to check mechanical equipment on the roof. An air conditioning unit was found with a burned motor and determined to be the cause of the smoke. Power was shut off to the unit and the building was released to the on-site manager. Saturday, July 29 At 5:33 a.m., Engine 105 Responded to a reported outdoor type of fire in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a rubbish fire that was quickly extinguished with a single hoseline. No property damage occurred. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
