The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 4 – 10, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:
Sunday, August 4
At 1:40 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 400 block of Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 10-month-old
male with a chief complaint of having difficulty breathing and redness on his chest.
Paramedics determined the patient was suffering from an allergic reaction and rapidly
established intravenous access and administered Benadryl. Fire personnel also obtained
an electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, and assessed the patient’s lung sounds. The
patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation.
Monday, August 5
At 4:29 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 1900 block of Alta Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 78-year-old female
with a chief complaint of a chest pain. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation
which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, and
administered aspirin and nitroglycerin. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia
Hospital for further evaluation.
Tuesday, August 6
At 12:08 p.m., Engine 106, BLS 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report
of a traffic collision at the intersection of Golden West Avenue and Duarte Road. Upon
arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic collision and performed a full medical
assessment on all occupants. One occupant, an 83-year-old female, complained of
dizziness from the accident. Fire personnel obtained a full set of vital signs, 12-lead
electrocardiogram, and the patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation. The remaining patients refused further care.
Wednesday, August 7
At 3:41 p.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to a report of major flooding in
the 1000 block of Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 2-story condo
over subterranean parking with significant flooding on all three stories. The flooding was
caused by a broken water line within a wall on the second story. Fire personnel shut off
the water to the building and used multiple water vacuums to remove most of the water
from the building. The primary water damage was limited to the unit of origin and the
property manager was notified.
Thursday, August 8
At 1:05 a.m., Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and units from multiple agencies
responded to a third-alarm structure fire in the 800 block of Truck Way in the city of
Montebello. Upon arrival, Truck 105 was assigned to Division Bravo to assist with fire
extinguishment. Truck 105 operated from the roof of an adjacent building and utilized
multiple hose lines from a defensive position, and the fire damage was limited to the
commercial structure of origin. An Arcadia fire investigator responded to the incident to
assist with the investigation.
Friday, August 9
At 12:51 p.m., Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and BLS 106 responded to the 1600
block of South Mayflower Avenue for a reported traffic collision. Fire personnel arrived to
find two-vehicle traffic collision with one 78-year-old male with facial trauma. The patient
was treated on scene and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.
Saturday, August 10
At 3:52 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of
South Baldwin Avenue for a person complaining of chest pain. Paramedics arrived to find
a 43-year-old male portraying signs of a cardiac emergency. Fire personnel performed a
full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, oxygen therapy,
blood glucose testing, and intravenous access for medications. The patient was
transported to Arcadia USC Hospital for further treatment.
