Fire Department Weekly Report - week of April 9 – 15, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 9 – 15, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 9 At 9:55 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported traffic collision in the area of East Huntington Drive and Centennial Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic collision with a flowing hydrant. Fire personnel located four patients requiring medical care. Three patients were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital, and one trauma patient to Huntington Health. The Public Works Department was requested to assess the potential damage to the water system and to restore the hydrant. Arcadia Police Department was on scene to assist with traffic control and the removal of the disabled vehicles from the roadway.

Monday, April 10 At 3:51 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 101, Battalion 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision at the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and Lucille Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle overturned with one patient that was extricated by a bystander. The vehicle struck and sheared a street light pole causing overhead electrical lines to contact nearby parked vehicles. Fire personnel requested Southern California Edison (SCE) to respond for the electrical wires down. Fire personnel performed a full trauma assessment on the patient including base line vital signs, a 12-lead electrocardiogram, and the patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation. Arcadia Police Department was on scene to assist with traffic control, establishing a safe area, and the removal of the vehicle from the roadway.


Tuesday, April 11 At 11:01 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of North Fifth Avenue for a reported structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find a fully involved dumpster fire at the rear of the property. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze with a single hose line. The cause of the fire was suspicious in nature and is under investigation. Wednesday, April 12 At 6:26 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 1000 block of Tenth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 85-year-old female with an allergic reaction. Fire personnel completed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, April 13 At 9:41 a.m., Engine 106 with Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 90-year-old male who was suffering from an altered level of consciousness with shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, breathing treatment, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, April 14 At 1:29 p.m., Engine 106 with Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 34-year- old female who was suffering from an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, April 15 At 12:20 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 900 block of Monte Verde Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 89-year-old female with a chief complaint of chest pain and dizziness. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG), intravenous access, and administered aspirin and nitroglycerin. Upon the 12-lead EKG determination by paramedics, the patient required further treatment and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital.
