Fire Department Weekly Report - week of April 30 – May 6, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 30 – May 6, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 30 At 8:49 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 41, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the intersection of Huntington Drive and Baldwin Avenue for a reported hazardous materials spill causing an active gas cloud. Firefighters arrived to find multiple chemical containers that had fallen off a truck, causing a chemical reaction and created a significant gas cloud throughout the intersection. Firefighters quickly evacuated and isolated the area. Hazardous Materials Teams arrived, and the chemicals were neutralized and cleaned up within two hours of the spill.


Monday, May 1 At 9:38 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 45-year-old female who was suffering from abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, May 2 At 11:18 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1300 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 57-year-old female who was suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, May 3 At 12:07 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 37-year- old female exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient and obtained a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, intravenous access, and transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, May 4 At 4:31 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 100 block of West Magna Vista Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 1-year- old female with a complaint of head trauma after a fall. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included an electrocardiogram and oxygen administration. Due to the mechanism of injury, the patient was transported to Los Angeles County USC for further trauma assessment.

Friday, May 5 At 11:17 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of East Huntington Drive for two people down. Firefighters arrived to find two male patients that were in custody after an altercation. Both subjects were treated on scene for minor cuts and abrasions but refused further care or transportation. Both subjects were released to Arcadia Police Department. Saturday, May 6 At 2:19 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of Las Tunas Drive and Live Oak Avenue for a reported traffic collision. Fire crews arrived to find a solo vehicle versus a tree traffic collision. The driver was a 29-year-old female with a blunt head injury. Paramedics initiated advanced life support protocols for this patient and transported her to Huntington Health for further trauma assessment.
