Fire Department Weekly Report - week of April 2 – 8, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 2 – 8, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 2 At 5:48 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 37, Truck 105, Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported multi-unit residential structure fire in the 900 block of Farview Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find smoke and fire conditions at the rear of the structure. Fire crews quickly initiated a primary search, an offensive fire attack, and extinguished and contained the fire to the area of origin. One person was treated for smoke inhalation and burn injuries. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.

Monday, April 3 At 4:48 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 37, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a traffic collision with an overturned vehicle on the 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel located a vehicle overturned in the HOV lane and found one patient that had self-extricated and needed medical assistance. Paramedics performed a full trauma assessment on the passenger of the vehicle and determined the patient met trauma criteria and was transported to Huntington Health. The driver denied and refused treatment. California Highway Patrol (CHP) remained on scene for the removal of the vehicle from the freeway.

Tuesday, April 4 At 1:43 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 64-year-old female exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient and confirmed the patient was experiencing a stroke. Fire crews obtained a 12- lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, intravenous access, and transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.

Wednesday, April 5 At 1:37 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 100 block of Alice Street for an alarm activation. Fire crews arrived to find a carbon monoxide detector alarming, and the firefighters utilized a four-gas monitor to analyze the interior atmosphere and found the residence to be safe to reoccupy. Thursday, April 6 At 2:24 p.m., Engine 106 and Engine 102 responded to a reported outdoor fire in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find light smoke at the rear of the location. Further investigation led firefighters to a wash behind this property. Burning vegetation adjacent to the reported location was found and was quickly extinguished by fire personnel. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. Friday, April 7 At 10:53 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Second Avenue for a reported outdoor fire. Firefighters arrived to find a shopping cart with its contents on fire. No one was in the area at the time of this incident, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. Saturday, April 8 At 12:19 p.m., Engine 41, Rescue Ambulance 41, USAR 106, Truck 101, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported lost and injured hiker two miles up on the Mount Wilson hiking trail. Fire crews geared up with advanced life support medical supplies and ascended towards the last known location of the hiker. Los Angeles County Sheriffs Air 5 Helicopter was requested for an aerial reconnaissance to help locate the injured hiker. Air 5 Helicopter and ground resources worked diligently to find, treat, and extricate the patient. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital in stable condition.
