Fire Department Weekly Report - July 30 – August 5, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 30 – August 5, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, July 30 At 5:57 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Longden Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male suffering from a possible stroke. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, July 31 At 5:06 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105,

Battalion 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a roll over traffic accident in the 100 block of Campus Drive. Firefighters arrived to find a two- vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle resting on its side, with an occupant still inside. Fire personnel stabilized the vehicle, removed part of the roof, and extricated the patient. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, facial bandage, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 1 At 12:01 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a water problem in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews observed a sprinkler head activation and Arcadia Public Works on scene with the water shut down. Fire personnel opened the main drain and depressurized the sprinkler system. The sprinkler head needed to be changed with a specialized tool and a fire sprinkler company was contacted.

Wednesday, August 2

At 10:32 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1900 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a well involved structure fire in an unoccupied single-story house.Engine 106 and Engine 105 were assigned to fire attack. Truck 105 was assigned to ventilation and went to the roof to cut a heat hole. One patient was

transported to a local hospital with minor injuries from a broken glass window. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.








Thursday, August 3

At 6:29 p.m., Truck 105 reported a still

alarm structure fire in the 300 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from behind a nearby business and requested a full structure fire response. Firefighters located the fire and found a flatbed truck on fire. Engine 105 crew arrived on scene and initiated an aggressive attack on the fire with a 1.5” hose line. Fire personnel extinguished the blaze and prevented the fire from spreading into trees overhead and surrounding structures. The damage was contained to the bed of the truck, with no fire extension. The Arcadia Police Department assisted with traffic control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Friday, August 4 At 3:43 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 1500 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a 23-year-old male with a complaint of left leg and shoulder pain after falling off his electric scooter. Paramedics performed a trauma assessment of the patient and found no other injuries. Due to the mechanism of injury, the patient was transported to Huntington Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, August 5 At 2:03 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an auto versus pedestrian traffic collision in the 1100 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 23-year-old male patient complaining of pelvic pain after being run over. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, splinting, bleeding control, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access with fluid replacement. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
