Fire Department Weekly Report - July 2 to 8, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 2 – 8, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, July 2 At 3:30 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 41, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported brush fire near the Santa Anita Dam. United States Forest Service (USFS) units arrived and established command of the approximately 4-acre fire. Air resources were requested and utilized to stop the forward progress of the fire. No immediate structures were threatened and one injured USFS firefighter was treated and transported to Huntington Health.


Monday, July 3 At 4:15 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a traffic collision with an overturned vehicle at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Longden Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a three- vehicle traffic collision with one vehicle on its side. The patient from the overturned vehicle suffered from left shoulder pain and was able to self-extricate. Paramedics performed full medical assessments on all three drivers, and all refused further treatment or transport. Fire personnel remained on scene for traffic control and clean-up of vehicle fluids in the roadway.


Tuesday, July 4 At 6:04 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 100 block of West Camino Real Avenue for a possible fire. Fire personnel arrived to find a barbeque grill with heat and smoke under a patio cover that had affected the inside of the home. Fire personnel utilized a thermal- imaging camera to ensure the fire was extinguished and requested additional fire unit for mechanical ventilation equipment to minimize smoke damage inside of the home. No injuries were reported, and the fire appeared to be accidental in nature.

Wednesday, July 5 At 5:04 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 102, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 12300 block of Lower Azusa Road for a reported commercial structure fire. Fire personnel arrived to find a large warehouse with heavy- duty, vehicle-style battery on fire. The fire was extinguished, and the battery was removed to the exterior of the structure due to its potential health hazard. No injuries were reported, and no structural damage occurred. Thursday, July 6 At 10:18 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 400 block of West Duarte Road for a reported multi-family residential structure fire with two residents unable to evacuate. Fire personnel arrived to find a small flash fire on the stove. The smoke was removed from the structure with positive pressure ventilation and no structural damage occurred. Friday, July 7 At 10:05 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and an Arcadia Fire Department Event Safety Officer responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive for two victims that had been assaulted. The victims were husband and wife in their 30s, and after a complete evaluation, some basic bandaging care and treatment, they denied further treatment and transportation. The couple remained on scene with law enforcement to complete a report. Saturday, July 8 At 4:20 p.m., Engine 105 and Battalion 105 responded to the 3300 block of Peck Road for a large fire at a vehicle wrecking yard involving multiple vehicles. Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived first and quickly extinguished the fire. Arcadia units arrived to patrol the surrounding area to ensure adjacent vegetation did not catch fire. With no fire extension, Arcadia units cleared the incident.
