Fire Department Weekly Report - February 5 – 11, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 5 – 11, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, February 5 At 3:04 a.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported traffic collision with a person trapped in the 500 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a single-vehicle accident with one victim seated in the driver seat. Paramedics assessed the victim and pronounced as deceased on scene.

Monday, February 6 At 2:43 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 78-year-old female exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests, 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, intravenous access, and transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, February 7 At 11:40 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 100-year- old male having difficulty breathing. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and oxygen administration. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, February 8
At 10:30 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 1600 block of South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an 87-year-old patient with a complaint of respiratory distress. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure check, and electrocardiogram. The patient’s status declined during transport and fire personnelutilized a bag valve mask (BVM) for airway management. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, February 9 At 7:25 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Truck 101 responded to a report of a person trapped in an elevator in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon further investigation, fire crews found one person that was trapped between the first and second floors. Fire crews utilized elevator extrication tools to remove the trapped person. The elevator was placed out of service and there were no injuries associated with this incident. Friday, February 10 At 10:57 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 200 block of East Huntington Drive for a reported rubbish fire. Firefighters arrived to find a contained rubbish fire and was quickly extinguished. The cause remains under investigation.

Saturday, February 11 At 10:41 a.m., USAR 106 and Battalion 105 responded under automatic aid to assist with a mountain rescue above Bailey Canyon Park in the city of Sierra Madre. Fire crews provided medical care, treatment, and pain management for a 30-year-old female with an ankle injury. Rescuers were able to quickly locate, package, and extricate the patient off the mountain where she was transported to Huntington Health Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.
