Fire Department Weekly Report - February 19 – 25, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 19 – 25, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, February 19 At 7:52 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a report of victims trapped inside an elevator in the 100 block of East Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a stalled elevator car with two occupants inside. Fire personnel gained access to the elevator control room where the elevator system was reset electronically. Once the elevator system was reset, fire personnel were able to extricate the occupants from the elevator car without damage. Both occupants did not require medical assistance and were released on scene. The elevator car was placed out-of-service and the property management company was notified. Monday, February 20 At 5:04 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of West Huntington Drive and Golden West Avenue. Upon arrival, there were four patients that were injured in the traffic collision. Fire personnel completed full medical evaluations of the patients. After being evaluated, two patients were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital and two patients were transported to Huntington Health. Arcadia Police Department remained on scene. Tuesday, February 21 At 2:08 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 100 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, there were multiple fires in the vegetation. Fire personnel requested a full alarm assignment due to the fires were directly threatening the structure. Fire crews utilized preconnected hose lines to extinguish the fire on two different sides of the building. The fires were contained to the areas of origin and Arcadia Fire Investigators responded for the investigation of the fire. Wednesday, February 22 At 10:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a report of victims trapped inside an elevator in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a stalled elevator car with three occupants inside. Fire personnel gained access to the elevator control room where the elevator car was manually lowered. Specialized tools were used to open the elevator doors and fire personnel were able to extricate the occupants from the elevator without damage. All three occupants required no medical assistance and were released on scene. The elevator car was placed out-of-service and the property management company was notified. Thursday, February 23 At 9:47 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 900 block of Encanto Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 89-year-old female with a complaint of a syncopal episode. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood sugar reading, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, February 24 At 11:59 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Engine 37, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported traffic collision with a person trapped near an on ramp, on the west bound side of the 210 Freeway. Upon arrival, fire personnel located a single tractor-trailer with one patient trapped inside. Fire personnel worked together to extricate the patient from the driver side of the tractor-trailer using portable hydraulic tools. The patient was extricated without complication and was transported to Huntington Health for further treatment of a leg injury. California Highway Patrol was on scene and coordinated the removal of the tractor-trailer from the embankment.


Saturday, February 25 At 10:28 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of wires down in the 1700 block of Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel contacted the homeowner who directed them to the wires down to the rear of the location. Fire personnel found a large pine tree down on high tension power lines. Fire personnel notified Southern California Edison to respond for the damage to the power lines and service meter to the structure. Fire personnel established a safe area around the downed power lines and advised the occupants to stay away from the area.
