Fire Department Weekly Report - August 6-12, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 6-12, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 6 At 9:29 a.m., Engine 106 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire personnel arrived to find a 57- year-old female suffering from abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, August 7 At 11:18 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 900 block of Monte Verde Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters found an elderly patient with a complaint of chest pain and shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous fluids, blood pressure monitoring, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and a full set of vital signs. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, August 8 At 6:19 a.m., Truck 105 responded to a report of water flowing from an OS&Y in the 100 block of California Street. Fire crews arrived to find water flowing from a bleeder valve of an OS&Y. Multiple incidents of tampering with building fire protections systems were reported in this area. Firefighters closed the valves, and the systems were reset to normal working status. This activity remains under investigation. Wednesday, August 9 At 11:33 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Second Avenue and East Duarte Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 16-year-old male with hip pain after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics provided a full trauma assessment including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and a complete set of vital signs. Due to the patient’s mechanism of injury, he was transported to Huntington Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.


Thursday, August 10

At 12:27 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported vehicle fire at the intersection of East Santa Clara Street and North Fifth Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle that had struck a block wall after a police pursuit. Paramedics arrived on scene and performed a full medical assessment of the driver and found them to have lower abdominal pain. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment. Fire crews utilized absorbent to contain and prevent the vehicle’s leaking fluids from entering the storm drain.


Friday, August 11

At 12:59 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 107, and Battalion 105 assisted units from Monrovia Fire Department responding to a structure fire in the 600 block of West Lime Avenue, Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure. Fire personnel aggressively attacked and extinguished the fire and contained it to the room of origin. In addition, fire crews searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety.


Saturday, August 12

At 6:53 p.m., Engine 105 and Engine 107 responded to a vehicle fire on the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a passenger vehicle heavily evolved in fire. Fire personnel deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire. The fire was determined to have started in the engine compartment and spread into the passenger space. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
