Fire Department Weekly Report - week of June 25 – July 1, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 25 – July 1, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, June 25 At 1:17 p.m., Engine 105 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to the 1300 block of Loganrita Avenue for a reported 56-year-old male with a head injury. The patient was treated for head pain and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation. Monday, June 26 At 6:54 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident near the 100 block of West Pamela Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 82-year- old female exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient and obtained a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, intravenous access, and transported her to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, June 27 At 10:14 a.m., Engine 107 responded to a reported vehicle fire near the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Hacienda Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a fully involved vehicle fire with no occupants inside. Fire personnel initiated an aggressive attack on the fire with a 1.5” hose line and extinguished the fire. The Arcadia Police Department assisted with traffic control during firefighting operations.


Wednesday, June 28 At 9:53 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the 800 block of West Duarte Road for a reported fuel spill. Firefighters arrived to find a large commercial delivery truck with a ruptured fuel tank causing diesel fuel to run down 400 feet of curb line and into a storm drain. Fire personnel plugged the fuel tank with Plug & Dike to the fuel leak, and quickly applied absorbent to stop any additional fuel from entering the storm drain. Due to the quantity of fuel spilled and the environmental impact, multiple agencies were notified to respond and assist with mitigation and cleanup efforts. Los Angeles County Health Hazmat, Arcadia Public Works Department, Los Angeles County Flood Control, and Arcadia Environmental Services worked together to complete state-level notifications and ensured all environmental impacts were properly mitigated. Thursday, June 29 At 12:08 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 1200 block of South Baldwin Avenue for a reported fire alarm with multiple alarm activations. Firefighters arrived to find a hood and duct system at a restaurant above their cooking appliances that had activated due to extreme heat. No fire extension occurred as the suppression system worked to cool the area and suppressed the fire as designed.

Friday, June 30 At 4:36 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 32-year- old male who was suffering from an active seizure. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medication for seizure, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, July 1 At 9:14 p.m., Engine 105 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Fano Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 28- year-old female who was suffering from anxiety. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
