Discover Sturtevant Camp

Adams’ Pack Station at Chantry Flat in the Angeles National Forest has added a web page dedicated to Sturtevant Camp on their web site.

The new page features photos, a video, reservations, and lots of information about the unique and historic rustic camp site located four miles by trail from Chantry Flat that features cabins with modern conveniences that is available for weekend and week-long rentals. The camp takes reservations year-round except for June.

Adams’ also spearheads the non-profit Friends of the San Gabriels organization, dedicated to supporting and enhancing the San Gabriel Mountain range with special emphasis on the Big Santa Anita Canyon (Chantry Flat). Friends work closely with the Forest Service, Big Santa Anita Fire Safe Council, and Sturtevant Camp to promote awareness of the importance of protected areas in the front range. Donated funds are used for graffiti removal, trail maintenance, brush removal, and education.  The funds are also used to help support the public outreach provided by Adams’ Pack Station.

Work parties are scheduled on the 3rd Sunday of each month, the next being October 16, which will focus on preventing shortcutting on the First Water switch backs (the trail down to Hermit Falls). Friends will use donations to purchase stakes and wire to reduce erosion due to shortcutting. Friends is looking for pictures from these work events and other volunteer efforts in the forest canyon to add to the website. Please send them to Greg Sweet (gregsweet4@yahoo.com).
