MOUNTAIN LION CAUGHT ON SECURITY CAMERA IN THE OAKS

As we continue to explore options for sharing the costs of engaging a regional wildlife specialist from the CA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, a resident on Oak Meadows Road in the Santa Anita Oaks neighborhood captured a video of a mountain lion walking casually through their yard.
See the link below.

We are working with the neighborhood to further educate them on dealing with wildlife, but it
certainly is a shock to see a big game cat moving through the area. This is the kind of thing that has always happened in the forest interface area, but we didn’t have cameras to capture it so it’s a bit more shocking. The good news is that mountain lions are very shy creatures and generally try to avoid any form of human contact. The bad news is that they are more aggressive than bears or coyotes when they do encounter us, so they do cause some additional concern.
Regarding the wildlife specialist agreement, the group of cities interested in the service is solidifying and City Manager think there will be enough interest that the cost will be nominal.
