Two employees of Coco’s Bakery Restaurant, 1150 W. Colorado St., were locked in a freezer and robbed at gunpoint by a masked suspect after closing hours late Sunday, Jan. 4. The suspect, still at large, got away with a backpack full of cash.
Arcadia Police report that a man wearing a mask covering part of his face approached an employee near a dumpster behind the eatery at about 10:10 p.m. and pointed a handgun at him. The gunman then entered the restaurant through the back door with the employee and confronted the manager who was in his office, and ordered him to fill the bag with money. The suspect also locked the two employees in the freezer and fled with the backpack.
The victims were able to escape unharmed and called 9-1-1. A third employee in the restaurant at the time wasn’t aware that a robbery happened.
The suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s, between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and with a slim build. He wore dark-colored pants and a black hooded jacket with a gray-and-black flannel lining. He also had a mask that covered his nose and mouth. The weapon was described as a silver semi-automatic handgun.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Arcadia Police at 626-574-5123. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or texting “TIPLA” plus the tip to 274637, or use the tip page at Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers.
