Brucker writer’s group

Local author Meredith Babeaux Brucker will lead an eight-week Writer’s Critique group at the Arcadia Public Library beginning Sept. 18.

Whether you are a rank beginner—or already a writer with some publishing credits—share your personal essays, interview articles, memoirs, op/ed pieces, poems and learn from the question and answer session with the group leader and from other students.

Among the topics covered will be time management and motivational techniques; how to deal with rejection; how best to approach editors and agents; research markets; and, most importantly, according to Brucker, how to re-write.

Registration is required as the class is limited to 12 adult students. Sign-ups begin September 1 at the Library Reference Desk, where Arcadia residents may register from 10 a.m. – noon (must show proof of residency), and open registration for everyone begins at 12 noon. Space is limited so be sure to register early.

Brucker is a graduate of Stanford University and a 10-year veteran of CBS, where she was a story editor and writer for the network daytime series “The Verdict Is Yours” and producer of the KCBS panel show “Newsmakers.” She has also appeared as a book reviewer and authored nine published novels and a children’s book. She was on the faculty of the UCLA Writer’s Program and for many years taught her popular “Writing for Publication” class and organized the annual Writers’ Forum at Pasadena City College.

Classes will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturdays in the  Arcadia Public Library Conference Room beginning Sept. 18 and continuing Sept. 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6.
