Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report February 23 to March 1

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations 113 / 1,103 Total Year to Date for 2014 1,064 / 8,515

For the period of Sunday, February 23rd, through Saturday, March 1st, the Police Department responded to 1,103 calls for service of which 113 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, February 23:

1. Around 1:10 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Station Bar, 1218 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a physical fight in progress. The unknown suspects fled the location prior to the officer’s arrival. During contact with two of the victims, a 23-year-old male and a 25-year-old male, the officer discovered one was under the influence of a controlled substance and the other had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

2. At approximately 10:25 p.m., officers conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle for numerous traffic violations in the area of First Avenue and California Street. The officer observed the 23-year-old male driver run several stop signs and drive backwards with no headlights on. He was arrested for Reckless Driving. The passenger, a 24-year-old male, was also arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Both subjects were transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, February 24:

3. Just after 4:00 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 000 block of West Longden Avenue regarding a domestic dispute. A verbal argument between two male subjects resulted in a physical altercation. The officer determined the 23-year-old male was the primary aggressor as he punched his boyfriend in the face, causing visible injury. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

4. At about 3:30 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of the 210 freeway onramp and Michillinda Avenue after noticing the front passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. A records check revealed the driver, a 71-year-old female, had a suspended license. The officer discovered the vehicle belonged to the passenger, a 54-year-old female, who had no insurance, expired registration, and was displaying a fraudulent registration sticker. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, February 25:

5. Just after 1:00 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Skate Park, 100 South Second Avenue, regarding two subjects smoking marijuana at the location. The officer discovered one of the subjects, a 16-year-old female, was in possession of marijuana. She was cited in the field and released to her father.

6. Around 4:58 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. The victim discovered unknown suspect(s) opened a Nordstrom credit account in her name and charged approximately $8,000 without her consent. She believed her personal information was compromised through a recent incident of mail theft.

Wednesday, February 26:

7. At approximately 1:10 p.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of South Santa Anita Avenue regarding a transient check. The male subject was loitering in the area earlier in the day and was now sitting on a bus bench drinking a can of beer. The 45-year-old male was cited in the field without incident.

8. Around 11:23 p.m., an officer was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 000 block of South Old Ranch Road regarding a burglary report. The victim discovered someone had forced entry through the kitchen window and stole various electronics and jewelry. Several pieces of evidence led the victim to believe a family member was responsible. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Thursday, February 27:

9. At about 6:15 a.m., an officer responded to Unocal 76 gas station, 701 West Huntington Drive, regarding a theft report. Upon opening for business, the manager discovered unknown suspect(s) removed the credit card reader from one of the gas pumps. No evidence or witnesses were located.

10. Shortly after 2:20 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious occupied vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 1000 block of South Tenth Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle and observed an open container of alcohol sitting in the center console. The 28-year-old female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, February 28:

11. At approximately 7:02 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Huntington Drive and Santa Clara Street regarding a stalled vehicle. An investigation revealed the 18-year-old male driver was under the influence of alcohol and had open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. A records check revealed the passenger, a 24-year-old male, had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

12. Just after 1:00 p.m., an officer responded to Sport Chalet at Westfield Santa Anita, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. A 42-year-old male suspect concealed fishing supplies inside his jacket and exited the store without making payment. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, March 1:

13. Just before 1:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving with no headlights on and lane straddling on Huntington Drive at First Avenue. The male driver failed to yield and led the officer on a short pursuit until he collided into a center median in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Tindalo Road, resulting in no injuries. An investigation revealed the 51-year-old male was under the influence with a blood alcohol level of about 0.15 percent. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

14. Around 12:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Abercrombie & Fitch at Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a burglary report. Employees discovered over $700 worth of fragrances were missing from a display shelf. Review of video surveillance revealed an organized retail theft crew entered the store and stole the merchandise while no one was looking. The suspects are described as three Black females, each approximately 20 to 30-years-old.
