Bicyclist dies in Baldwin crash

A 70-year-old Arcadia resident died as a result of injuries he sustained Monday afternoon when he was riding his bike on Longden Avenue across Baldwin Ave. and was struck by a motorist, according to Arcadia Police. The police department was notified by local hospital staff of the death at about 10:00 am today, Wednesday, Jan. 19, that the man died Tuesday with family at his side. Arcadia Police and Paramedics responded at 4:08 p.m. Monday to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Baldwin and Longden. Preliminary investigation and witness interviews indicate that the cyclist riding eastbound most likely entered the intersection on a red light when he was struck broadside by a vehicle heading southbound on Baldwin. The bicyclist suffered severe injuries to his head and leg, was treated at the scene and transported to Methodist Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene. Police investigators will not be seeking charges against the driver.
