Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report - Sunday, March 3rd, through Saturday, March 9th


For the period of Sunday, March 3rd, through Saturday, March 9th, the Police Department responded to 949 calls for service of which 112 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period.



Sunday, March 3:

1. At 8:02 a.m., officers responded to 626 Hospitality, 160 East Duarte Road, regarding the report of a burglary. Surveillance footage revealed three suspects smashed the east facing glass door and entered the location just after 2:00 a.m. The suspects were described as males. One suspect was wearing a black rain jacket with black pants. The second suspect was wearing a black and yellow hooded sweatshirt with black pants and a headlamp, and the third suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black pants, carrying a yellow pry bar.

2. At 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the riverbed area south of Camino Real Avenue near Eighth Avenue regarding an encampment with two large tents and several full shopping carts. Officers had contacted subjects in that area three days prior and notified them that they had 72 hours to vacate the premises. The two subjects who were still occupying the location, a 34-year-old female transient and a 41-year-old male transient, were issued citations for illegal camping.

3. At 4:27 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Hugo Reid Drive regarding a burglary report. The victim returned home after a two-month vacation to find the front door lock had been broken. Unknown suspect(s) ransacked the home, stealing an unknown amount of property.

Monday, March 4:

4. At 1:40 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Campus Drive regarding the notification of a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 44-year-old male from Pasadena, was arrested for grand theft of a vehicle and an outstanding warrant. The passenger, a 35-year-old male from Pasadena, was arrested for two outstanding warrants.

5. At 5:11 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of the Shops at Santa Anita, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding the report of a vehicle burglary that had occurred between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger side window and stole a backpack containing a laptop, a tablet, and a battery pack.

6. At 8:21 p.m., officers responded to the Peacock parking structure of the Shops at Santa Anita, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding notification of a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers located the stolen vehicle, occupied by a male a driver and female passenger, and conducted a traffic stop. The 20-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Tuesday, March 5:

7. At 1:02 p.m., officers responded to Wells Fargo Bank, 1200 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft that had just occurred. An investigation revealed four suspects worked in concert to distract the victim so they could steal her money. The victim had just returned to her vehicle and placed an envelope of cash on her passenger seat when a male subject knocked on her rear window. The suspects had placed nails and thumbtacks behind the tire of her car. One suspect alerted her to the tacks while a female suspect entered her car and stole her money. The two suspects fled the scene in an awaiting car. Officers located the suspect vehicle and detained the four occupants. A 20-year-old male, a 29-year-old male, a 24-year-old male, and a 37-year-old female, all from Los Angeles, were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, March 6

8. At 2:40 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive regarding the report of a theft of mail. An investigation revealed a male suspect approached the community mailboxes and used an unknown tool to open eight mailboxes. He stole mail from each box and concealed it in a shopping bag before fleeing the scene. The suspect was seen wearing a black shirt with a yellow reflector cross, blue jeans, black shoes, and prescription glasses.

Thursday, March 7

9. At 4:53 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of West Las Flores regarding a domestic disturbance. A married couple had a disagreement leading to the wife fleeing to her children’s room. The husband entered the room and grabbed his wife by her hair and dragged her into another room in front of their young children. The wife sustained visible injuries. The 63-year-old male from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, March 8:

10. At 11:18 a.m., officers responded to Eclipse Imports, 11819 Goldring Street, regarding a burglary that had occurred during the early morning hours. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect entered the location by prying the door. The suspect ransacked the business, stealing a portable battery charger before fleeing the scene.

Saturday, March 9:

11. At 2:32 a.m., officers responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a male subject seen burglarizing vehicles. Officers located and detained the suspect. An investigation revealed the suspect had smashed the window of a nearby vehicle and was in possession of stolen property. The 39-year-old male transient was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

12. At 8:50 a.m., officers responded to Vons, 745 West Naomi Avenue, regarding a theft that had just occurred. The suspect entered the store and began filling a cart with groceries. An employee recognized him from previous thefts and asked him to leave the store. The suspect left the store with a bottle of whiskey he did not pay for. Officers located the suspect and retrieved the stolen bottle. The 45-year-old male transient was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

13. At 5:19 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Woodland Avenue and Highland Oaks Drive regarding a traffic accident that had just occurred. An investigation revealed one driver rear-ended another driver and failed to stop to exchange information. The other driver followed the hit-and- run driver until she stopped, and officers arrived at the scene. Upon contacting the driver, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 61-year-old female from Monrovia had been driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

14. At 8:26 p.m., officers responded to the area of South Baldwin Avenue and Arboretum Way regarding a solo vehicle traffic collision. Witnesses saw the driver lose control of his vehicle and crash into the center median causing the airbag to deploy. The driver continued driving and parked his car in the Arboretum parking lot before exiting the car with his passenger and walking away. Officers contacted both subjects and discovered the driver was emitting a strong odor of alcohol and displayed symptoms of impairment. The vehicle was impounded and the 25-year-old male from Landcaster was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
