Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report - Sunday, February 18th, through Saturday, February 24th


For the period of Sunday, February 18th, through Saturday, February 24th, the Police Department responded to 983 calls for service of which 85 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period.


Sunday, February 18:

1. At 9:50 a.m., an officer responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a theft report. The victim locked his two cellphones inside a locker and returned an hour later to find that an unknown suspect had removed his lock by unknown means and stole his cellphones.


Monday, February 19:

2. At 8:48 a.m., officers responded to Arcadia Retirement Village, 607 West Duarte Road, regarding the report of a missing elderly woman. An investigation revealed the woman went for a walk and couldn’t find her way home. Hours later, a home care nurse found the woman sitting outside of a residence on Caroline Way and contacted police who returned her to her home.

3. At 9:26 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 00 block of North Altura Road regarding a motorcyclist lying face down on the lawn. The officer contacted the subject who claimed he had too much to drink the night prior, so he decided to park his motorcycle and sleep on the lawn. An investigation revealed the subject had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and he was in possession of knives, pepper spray, and a USPS master key. The 55-year-old male from Monrovia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.


Tuesday, February 20:

4. At 8:27 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Paloma Drive regarding a burglary that had just occurred. An investigation revealed the suspect smashed the side glass door and was making his way inside the residence when the victim saw him and said she was calling the police.

The suspect fled the scene westbound on Paloma Drive. The suspect was described as male, with an average build, wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, black pants, black gloves, a tan plaid scarf, a black balaclava mask, carrying a backpack. The suspect vehicle was described as a white four-door sedan.

5. At 11:08 a.m., officers responded to 7 Eleven, 102 East Huntington Drive, regarding a theft report. An investigation revealed the suspect approached the store clerk and asked her for a pack of cigarettes. The suspect took the cigarettes and left the store without paying for them. Officers contacted the suspect and recovered the stolen pack of cigarettes. The 44-year-old male from Los Angeles was issued a citation.


Wednesday, February 21:

6. At 4:05 a.m., officers responded to Sphinx Mart and Tobacco, 142 East Huntington Drive, regarding a burglary that had just occurred. Security camera footage revealed three male suspects wearing black clothing, masks, and gloves, had smashed the front glass door and broke the metal security gate. The suspects ransacked the store, stealing cash and several tobacco products.

7. At 7:44 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Stanford Drive regarding the report of a burglary. The resident returned home to find his rear glass door had been smashed. Unknown suspect(s) ransacked the bedrooms and stole a camera and jewelry.

8. At 9:29 p.m., officers responded to Orchid Orthopedic, 11911 Clark Street, regarding an audible alarm. Officers discovered the rear glass door had been shattered by unknown suspect(s). The loss was unknown at the time of the report.


Thursday, February 22:

9. At 2:22 p.m., officers responded to Macy’s, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft that had just occurred. Three suspects entered the store carrying large black booster bags. The suspects filled the bags with bottles of perfume and cologne before fleeing the scene in a white sedan. The suspects were described as males, 25 to 30-years-old, wearing dark colored clothing, and baseball caps.

10. At 3:39 p.m., an officer responded to the parking lot of 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding the report of a vehicle burglary. Unknown suspect(s) smashed the front passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole the victim’s bag of hair supplies, and a fanny pack containing a watch and makeup.


Friday, February 23:

11. At 2:43 a.m., an officer responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding the report of a theft. The victim locked her backpack inside a locker. When she returned a few hours later, she discovered an unknown suspect had cut her lock and removed her backpack that contained her wallet, car keys, and cellphone. The victim located her backpack inside another locker; however, her wallet was not in it.


Saturday, February 24:

12. At about 6:44 a.m., an officer responded to the area of Huntington Drive and San Rafael Road regarding a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway. The reporting party saw the driver asleep inside the car with the engine running. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 25- year-old male from Monrovia was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

13. At 11:54 p.m., officers contacted a subject while patrolling the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive. An investigation revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 36-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
