For the period of Sunday, April 30th through Saturday, May 6th, the Police Department responded to 977 calls for service, of which 122 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Monday, May 1:
At 9:32 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of Naomi Avenue regarding a burglary investigation. The officer determined two suspects shattered the rear sliding door but were scared off when they encountered the resident. Surveillance footage captured their vehicles as a grey Ford Explorer and a red Mercedes SUV.
At 1:16 p.m., an officer responded to the 2600 block of South Santa Anita Avenue regarding a commercial burglary investigation. The officer discovered unknown suspect(s) stole copper wiring, pipes, and circuit breakers from the residential construction site. The crime occurred sometime between Saturday, April 29th and Monday, May 1st.
Tuesday, May 2:
3. At 2:52 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Public Library, located at 20 West Duarte Road, regarding a battery investigation. The officer determined the female victim was spat on by the male suspect. The 68-year-old male from Auburn, CA was issued a citation.
4. At 5:18 p.m., an officer responded to the 200 block of South Santa Anita Avenue regarding a commercial burglary investigation. The officer discovered an unknown suspect entered the laundry room of the apartment complex and broke into the coin receptable of a washing machine. The suspect fled with an unknown amount of change. The incident happened sometime between April 25th and May 2nd.
Wednesday, May 3:
5. At 8:54 a.m., an officer responded to Arcadia 210 Storage, located at 324 North Second Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary investigation. The officer determined someone broke the front glass door, ransacked the location, but fled without any property. The incident occurred sometime between May 2nd at 6:00 p.m. and May 3rd at 8:50 a.m.
6. At 2:52 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 00 block of West Wistaria Avenue regarding a burglary in progress. Surveillance footage captured three suspects entering the back yard. Officers arrested four suspects after a short foot pursuit and one additional suspect in a separate vehicle. This burglary was linked to the incident on Naomi Avenue on May 1st and one other burglary within the city. A total of five burglars were arrested. A 49-year-old male from Los Angeles, a 22-year-old male from Perris, a 27-year-old male from Venice, a 25-year-old male from Los Angeles, and a 27-year-old male from Moreno Valley. A handgun was recovered. The suspect from Venice was booked for various charges for possession of a firearm.
7. At 6:07 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 00 block of Diamond Street regarding a battery investigation. The officer determined a verbal altercation between two males resulted in the suspect punching and pushing the victim. The 42-year-old male from Arcadia was gone before the officer arrived.
Friday, May 5: 8. At 3:03 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Wilson Avenue regarding an attempted burglary investigation. The officer determined two suspects entered the victim’s back yard when they encountered the resident and were scared off. The suspects are described as two Hispanic males. There was no loss.
Saturday, May 6: 9. At 1:27 a.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Donuts, located at 34 Las Tunas Drive, regarding a commercial burglary investigation. Surveillance footage captured two suspects breaking into the business and attempting to steal the ATM but failing to do so. The loss is unknown, but they were unsuccessful in stealing the ATM. The suspects are described as two White or Hispanic males in a silver Ford SUV.
