Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity for March 25-31, 2018

For the period of Sunday, March 25th, through Saturday, March 31st, the Police Department responded to 1,024 calls for service, of which 122 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, March 25:

  1. Just before 1:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road for speeding. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 22-year-old male from Mission Viejo was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At about 6:40 p.m., an officer patrolling the area of Sixth Avenue and Live Oak Avenue discovered a parked vehicle with expired registration and fraudulent tabs on the license plate. The officer contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, a 61-year-old female from Rosemead, and issued her a citation for false display of registration. The vehicle was towed and impounded for having expired registration over six months.

Monday, March 26:

3. Just before 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Oakhurst Lane regarding a burglary. The officers determined the unidentified suspect(s) entered the residence by smashing a rear sliding glass window. The suspect(s) then stole jewelry before fleeing. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located. The investigation is ongoing.




4. Just after 10:00 p.m., an officer responded to the parking lot of Westfield Santa Anita regarding the report of a vehicle theft. The victim parked and secured her car around 3:30 p.m. and returned to find it missing. On March 29th, the Arcadia Police Department received notification that the vehicle had been recovered in the city of Pico Rivera.

Tuesday, March 27:

  1. Just after midnight, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Baldwin Avenue and Huntington Drive for having expired registration. An investigation revealed the driver was driving with a suspended license. The passenger provided the officer with a fictitious name and was found to be in possession of an open alcoholic container and stolen checks. She also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The 52-year-old female from Glendora was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking and the 36-year-old driver, a female from Azusa, was issued a citation and released at the scene.

  2. Just after 8:00 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of Wigwam Avenue regarding a burglary alarm. The officer discovered a smashed rear sliding glass window. Unknown suspect(s) ransacked the residence before fleeing. The property loss was unknown due to the owner of the residence being out of the country at the time. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Wednesday, March 28:

  1. Just before 11:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a missing rear plate in the 200 block of Colorado Place. Shortly after the officer contacted the driver and his female passenger, the male driver fled the scene on foot and out of sight. The officer discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in a carjacking incident by an armed suspect. A witness at the scene reported seeing the suspect running from the officer with a handgun. A containment was established with the assistance of officers and K-9s from Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, El Monte, and San Marino Police Departments. Pasadena Air Support also assisted. The suspect was eventually located. Both subjects were determined to be convicted felons in possession of a firearm, ammunition, shaved keys, stolen property, narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The female was released to medical staff and the 28-year-old male from Pomona was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to Boba Ave Express, 1437 S. Baldwin Avenue, regarding the report of a fight in progress. An investigation revealed the suspect was upset with the victim for talking to his girlfriend. He approached the victim and punched him several times in his face. The suspect also provided officers with a fictitiousname. Officers discovered the suspect’s true identity and that he was on probation. The18-year-old male from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, March 29:




  1. At about 9:40 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of Fairview Avenue regarding a theft report. The officer contacted the reporting party who witnessed the theft.The suspect was seen reaching into the bed of the victim’s truck and removing gardening equipment. The suspect then placed the stolen equipment into the bed of a silver pickup truck and fled the scene westbound on Fairview Avenue. The suspect was described as a male Asian wearing a white surgical mask over his face and dark clothing. The investigation is ongoing.

  2. At approximately 2:30 p.m., an officer responded to Sephora, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a suspect being detained for shoplifting. A Loss Prevention Officer witnessed the suspect conceal several pieces of merchandise in her sweatshirt and exit the store. The Loss Prevention Officer contacted the suspect and detained her until Arcadia Police Officers arrived. The 20-year-old female from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, March 30:

  1. Just after 3:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Boutique 5, 733 West Naomi Avenue Unit E, regarding a grand theft report. An investigation revealed the first suspect entered the store and requested to see a Chanel handbag. The suspect placed the handbag over her shoulder and began walking around the store while looking at other purses. At that time, three additional suspects entered the store. All four suspects grabbed as many handbags as they could carry and ran out of the store, into a vehicle, and fled the scene westbound on Naomi Avenue. The suspects, three female and one male, were described as Black, 18 to 23 years of age. The investigation is ongoing.

  2. At approximately 8:20 p.m., an officer responded to JC Penney, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding the report of a battery. The witness observed the male suspect slap and pull the hair of the female victim who was holding a child. As a result of the investigation, the male was arrested for domestic battery, providing false identification to an officer and having two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The 20-year-old male from El Monte was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, March 31:

  1. Just before noon, an officer was dispatched to a traffic collision involving three vehicles. An investigation revealed one vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle, pushing it into the third vehicle, both vehicles had been stopped at a red light when the third vehicle collided with them. The officer contacted the driver and detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the 36-year-old male from Glendale was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. Just after 2:00 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of East Pamela Road regarding a burglary alarm. The officer discovered a rear sliding glass door had been smashed and unknown suspect(s) had ransacked the residence, stealing several electronics and jewelry before fleeing. The investigation is ongoing.
