The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 21, 2017 to May 27, 2017. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, May 21st
At 11:00 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 700 block of West Duarte Road on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 75-year-old female feeling weak and dizzy. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, May 22nd
At 8:30 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue on a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a three vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle overturned and three occupants who had self-extricated. All three patients received advanced life support measures on scene including spinal assessment, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, May 23rd
At 8:46 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1700 block of Wilson Avenue on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, May 24th
At 6:56 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 800 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 77-year-old female experiencing leg pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, May 25th
At 3:51 p.m., Truck 105 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a report of a child locked in a vehicle. Fire crews arrived to find an 18-month toddler who had been accidentally locked inside a vehicle parked in direct sunlight. The child showed no signs of distress, was eating snacks, and entertaining himself with the car’s keys. Fire personnel used a non-destructive tool to unlock the vehicle and move the child to a cooler environment. After being evaluated, and found to be free from injury, the child was returned to the care of his grandmother.
Friday, May 26th
At 4:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 60-year-old female experiencing shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and blood glucose testing. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, May 27th
At 10:06 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1100 block of West Huntington Drive on a medical assist. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 55-year-old female experiencing recurring leg pain. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 402 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
