Arcadia Fire Department Weekly Report week of May 20 – May 26, 2018

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 20 – May 26, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, May 20th

At 10:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of North San Vicente Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, May 21st

At 5:27 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found an elderly female having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Tuesday, May 22nd

At 4:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision on North Baldwin Avenue at Harvard Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find a two vehicle traffic collision involving three patients with minor injuries. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cardiac monitoring and bandaging. One patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.




Wednesday, May 23rd

At 6:00 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a fire alarm activation in the 00 block of East Live Oak Avenue. While responding, Verdugo Fire Communication balanced the response to a full first alarm Structure Fire assignment. Engine 106, Truck 105,

Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 along with Monrovia Engine 102, and Monrovia Truck 101, were added to the incident. Upon arrival, fire units found a sprinkler head activated from a small fire in a rear storage room. Fire personnel extinguished and removed any remaining smoldering items. The sprinkler head was replaced and the fire alarm and suppression system were restored. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.




Thursday, May 24th

At 12:47 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of North Rafael Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female experiencing a choking feeling. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, May 25th

At 9:44 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an auto versus bicycle traffic collision on Colorado Street at South Michillinda Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 34-year-old male bicyclist with blunt head injury after being struck by a car. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, spinal immobilization, wound dressing, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, May 26th

At 10:20 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find a 20-year-old female having a possible allergic reaction to mushrooms. The patient had self- medicated prior to paramedics arrival and refused further treatment and transport to a local hospital.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 360 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
