The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 13 – May 19, 2018. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, May 13th
At 8:34 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 27-year-old male in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, May 14th
At 2:38 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West La Sierra Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, May 15th
At 12:08 a.m., Truck 105 responded to an animal rescue in the wash near East Santa Clara Avenue and North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a kitten in a steep vertical wall wash with no means of escape. Fire personnel made access to the wash and rescued the kitten. The unharmed kitten was released to the care of Animal Control personnel.
Wednesday, May 16th
At 6:19 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the city of San Gabriel as part of a 3rd alarm assignment of a structure fire. Fire crews arrived to find a fully involved large commercial building. Defensive operations were established and Engine 106 assisted with firefighting operations. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Thursday, May 17th
At 7:59 p.m., Engine 106 responded to an animal rescue in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a cat trapped between two walls. Fire personnel attempted to free the tightly wedged cat through non-destructive means but were unsuccessful. Electrical tools were used to breach through a wall and rescue the cat. The cat was unharmed and returned to the owner.
Friday, May 18th
At 8:10 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Norman Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly male experiencing a local neurological deficit and in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, May 19th
At 2:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a male patient who had fallen from a horse at running speed. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including full spinal immobilization, intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 425 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
